What a Stress!
No beach so far this weekend. No sir, it seems it is time to pay the piper. Natty has been after me to tidy up my magazine collection as she was tired of seeing the collection of magazines in boxes all over the house.
Those boxes represented an accumulation of magazines over the seven+ years of our marriage and some from before we were married too… Windows NT Magazine (Now Windows & .Net magazine), Linux Journal, Sysadmin, Webtechniques, and others related to Visual Basic, and MS Access. They are all old, but they contain valuable tips, and I could never bring myself to throw them away in the past.
Well, yesterday I did! What a stress! I really had to steel up my nerve as I threw them into the complex’ rubbish bins. My only consolation is that I can probably order the back issues on CD from the magazine publishers. I shall have to surf their sites and see if they all offer such CDs for sale. I know for sure that Linux Journal does…
Apart from this act of great personal sacrifice, the only other thing worthy note that I did was to go have a drink with one of the consultants working on my project at work.
We went first to the pool bar at the Courtleigh Hotel, but their bar was a little quiet and dark. It would really come to life later, as they stage a Noche Latina (Latin Night) on Saturdays (in the Mingles Pub and by the Pool Bar) which draws a large crowd. I used to enjoy the Latin Night in the past, then it began to be overrun by teenagers, so I stopped going. The consultant assured me that nowadays it seems to attract more people my age, so maybe Natty and I can check it out again.
We then walked over to the Jamaica Hilton Hotel and went to their pool bar. Its been a long time since I’ve been there. I used to go there a lot, so much so that all the waiters, waitresses and bar tenders were my friends. Many of them seem to have moved on to other jobs, but it was fun never the less. We drank Smirnoff Ice and Rum and Pepsi as we talked shop about the project. It was fun.
Based on that little lime, I discovered that my consultant loves to play golf, pool and chess. I like pool and chess, so maybe we can get a game going. We shall see…
Always good to throw rubbish out. Have been trying to do so myself with all the Medical junk I have accumulated over the years. Some of the info. may not even be valid anymore. This field is constantly changing. I do understand the sentiment attached to these things myself. One of my co-workers says the same things about her husband’s magazines, he doesn’t want to let go of them and they only accumulate dust. It’s a pity as Libraries don’t seem to want them either.
As for golf, pool and chess, NOT MY THING! I’ll take you up on the Baminton (note spelling) offer. BTW, the spelling business is a private thing between us for all the other readers, and, MB I’d like my 500 dollars!
That backfired. That should spell BADMINTON.
I’m sure your misspelling cancels out mine, so all I have to say is don’t hold your breath, dude!
