My Usual Vibe Sets In…

It is 2003 now. I sit and listen to the incessant explosions of firecrackers, and of the Nines and Glocks of the upper middleclass and the topanaris of Jamaican Society, as they celebrate the birth of the New Year with gun salutes. One cannot help but to hear them! Not me, not MB. Jr., who they just woke up, nor Natty, who is trying in vain to put him back to sleep… Not the people who try to celebrate the New Year by going to church. We all sit here, watching and trying to make sense of it all, as Time marches by inexorably… Eat, drink and be merry! Tomorrow we may die… or at least have to face the bills.

Oonoo don’t mind me, I tend to get a bit pensive whenever a New Year rolls around. By tomorrow, I will have gotten back with the program. Happy New Years, everybody! (* The strains of Auld Lang Syne grow in volume, drowning out all coherent thought, and people wine down and cavort on dance floors, hugging and pawing at and kissing their significant others in a mad drunken orgy… Enjoy yourselves… Tomorrow, reality will reassert itself *)

I think I’m going to go take a look at wKenShow Version 2.0. Good Night.

  1. Well, I can’t believe that you were posting already! But then again why am I surprised?….You refer to the hugging, kissing, drinking etc. that people get into at midnight when that Auld Lang Syne is playing. I don’t like that song at all as for me it tends to make me reflect on the sad times only, and that is perhaps one of the reasons why I am not too inclined to attend New Year’s Eve parties. Maybe it is just me, but then again music stirs up different emotions in different people.Anyhow, you must be sick of hearing it, but, all the best bredren. From the look of things already, economically, we don’t seem to have much of a bright horizon to look forward to inna dis, our country. But anyhow, despite dat, I man going hold a fresh as unlike some o onoo, work calls! Respec.

  2. Well, Doc, I think that you have the ultimate control over that. Before the music even starts, think up some of the happier images that are there from the year just ending…Think of those happy days at Lime Cay, when you were feasting your eyes and your stomach, then cooling off in the wonderful waters of the Caribbean Sea.Think of the good times you had liming with friends at Frenchman’s Cove.Think of the good parties you went to, or the people you helped at work.Think of all the people you had reading your blog, reading what you had to say and thinking enough of it to shower you with comments…Having selected these as your more treasured memories, when “Auld Lang Syne” starts playing, forcibly bring these thoughts to your mind as you hug people on both sides of you and kick up your heels on the dance floor, as you form trains and wend your way round and round and through the other couples dancing as the New Year is born.Prepare your mind from now, because next New Year’s Eve, we’ll be at the Faultline, listening to the master mixers Alrick and Boyd from Fame FM! Sheggy told us that we missed one hell of a party, dude!

  3. and now DOC, after reading all this……i shall attempt to jump off of sheggy’s balcony…. GOODBYE CRUEL WORLD!!! ( i think i will do it while sheggy is at lime cay now having a good time) AAAAANNNDDD NNNOWWW ….THE END IS NEAR…AND SO I ….

  4. Is this some sort of conspiracy? I am simply telling you how the song makes me feel, and that is just how it is. What more can I say? Sometimes we are not fully in charge of how we feel about things, that’s all.

  5. All me a seh, rude bwoy, is prepare you mind, because we are all going to paint the town not only red, but red, green and gold, red white and blue, and any other colours you have a particular hankering for come New Year’s Eve. Das all me a seh!
