Remember This…

Here is a little story thats been used in business school to pass on an important principle. If as great a person as Jesus chose to tell us important things using parables, there must be a good reason, and so I guess the lecturers felt they would be stupid if they didn’t use the same technique. Whatever the reason why they came up with it, I found it interesting. Here is the story of the hunter and the Bengal tiger…

A great hunter in India came across a beautiful Bengal tiger. Since the animal was just a few steps away, the hunter fired a quick shot… and missed. Luckily for him, the tiger also missed when it jumped at him to attack.

The hunter returned to his camp and began practicing firing shots from a short distance. He was determined not to be caught off guard by another similar situation. The following day, when he went into the jungle, the first thing he saw was the same Bengal tiger… practicing short jumps!

This happens to us with our long-term goals. They ARE important, but we reach them only if we first achieve our short-term objectives. Yes, keep your main goal in mind… but don’t forget to practice short jumps, you simi?

You have a great day now, ok…

  1. Hey! They’ve got a similar saying in boxing. It goes to the effect of- If you’re not training, be sure and know that your opponant is training- to kick your butt! I like your story better, though, it has that Ancient Chinese wisdom type vibe!

  2. Good advice…
It also teaches me, while you are improving yourself… so is the competition.

Personally, that has ALWAYS been my driving force and my philosophy. It’s how things get better and better. Thanks for putting it into words with a great parable.

  3. Not a bad story.
