The Pageant
The Miss Jamaica World Pageant was quite enjoyable. It has been years that I have not attended any of the shows, but judging from what I watched last night, I may start attending again. It was a great show!
I tuned in late, and so missed seeing all twenty contestants in their swimsuits, but they have a decent format for the show this year, so all was not lost. When the top ten contestants were chosen, they had them parade in swimwear again!
What else can I tell you about the show? If you had attended you would be surrounded by beauty, as many many beautiful women were in the audience. I have long felt that many a time, there are more beautiful women watching the show along with me than there are on the stage, and last night, I may well have gotten that feeling again. As the camera flitted here and there, I noticed many, many hotties.
There were at least TWO Miss Worlds there, our very own Lisa Hanna and the reigning Miss World, Azra Akin from Turkey. There were numerous past winners of the competition aside from Lisa Hanna as well, like Allison Barnett, Desiree DePass, Christine Straw, and Sandra Cunningham. Click here to see pictures of these women. The place was awash in beautiful women, I’m telling you, and those are just the ones I saw on TV. There was even an international fashion model in the house, Nadine Willis. Guess who was a TVJ presenter for the show? Rik Rok, who sang the song “It Wasn’t Me” with Shaggy! And then guess who they had to sing for us and to serenade the girls? To-Isis, Iyah, you done know how I feel about them, right?
The decor, the choreography, the faultless planning of the organisers, all contributed to this being a great show!
So, you want to know who won, am I right? You want to know if the Mad Bull can still pick them? Let me give you an idea of the proceedings. First, the top ten:
| Candice Bromfield Rosemarie Powell Melissa Lindo Sabrina Palomino Tiffany Lee Chantelle Fisher Tracy Cowan Christine Mighty Sharice Fernander Jade Fulford |
Interesting so far huh? Did I mention that they have incorporated a talent show into the competition? Yessir, the contestants sung, danced and gave readings of their own poetry and that of recognised poets for our pleasure, and the talent part of the show was won by Sharice Fernander? They also had a modelling component, which was won by Jade Fulford! The Best Body prize was won by a girl who didn’t make it to the top ten, Jasinta Walters, but I didn’t get to judge that for myself as I tuned in late as I said.
Based upon my seeing this pageant on TV, I think I should point out that the pictures on the Miss Jamaica World website doesn’t do the girls justice, or maybe they have better makeup artists now, I don’t know. As an example of things you might miss if you didn’t attend, Tiffany Lee has a wicked body!!! You don’t pick that up from the website. Tracy Cowan is quite pretty! She looked ok on the website, but she looked wicked on the telly, and in other pictures I saw of her. She seems to be an all around irie girl… Nice personality, pretty and a nice body to boot. Unfortunately Doc, she is too young for you…
So… you want to hear about the top five, now, huh? Ok, here they are :
| Chantelle Fisher Tracy Cowan Christine Mighty Sharice Fernander Jade Fulford |
Mah peeps! As I mentioned, their pictures on the website don’t seem to have done them justice… All of the women in the top ten (excepting one
) could a check! (They are all girls I ‘d date!) They all looked quite nice. Check them out here. More sectional prizes were given out, and Tracy Cowan won several! Like I mentioned, she has a lot going for her.
So they asked the top five some questions… I don’t remember what they asked the girls, but by and large they all did ok… Tracy Cowan did better than the others on her question, in my opinion.
Anyway, they then picked the top three… In third place was Tracy Cowan! In second place was Chantelle Fisher! And of course, I already told you who would win… Jade Fulford! Chantelle looked irie, but she had her hair up, and to me, I’d have put Tracy Cowan over her. Tracy would have been my second place winner on the night. Christine Mighty would have given Chantelle a good fight for third too, in my opinion.
Anyway, Jade Fulford is Miss Jamaica World 2003, and she’ll go on to represent us in China in the Miss World Pageant later this year, I think in November. Congratulations and good luck to her. If they have a nice picture of her wearing the crown available tomorrow, I’ll link it for you… Bye!
With the lenghty post here, one wonders if you were like one the contestants, sponsored.
I never even remembered that the contest was last night, but as I was having delicious Thai food last night, and reading this post of yours now, I guess I really didn’t miss anything.
Congrats to the winner. May she do well, lately we have not been shocking out in the Miss World or Universe contests.
Does anyone know where you can see photos of Rik Rok from the Pageant?
Thanks for any help!
Sorry, no I don’t. Rik Rok was one of two hosts for TVJ (or was it CVM) rather than a host for the pageant itself, so he wasn’t on stage or anything. As such, there may not be many pictures of him there. Sorry…
I know Jade personally. I was a bit surprised that she entered, she never seemed ‘talkative or attention-seeking’.. which was a refreshing change from other UWI people who entered in the past. the only other girl who could have won was tracy cowan, and it was basically a coin-toss. I’m a friend of Jade’s, but I really liked Tracy ( i found her attractive) But I supported my friend. she took coming 3rd graciously, but she should have come 2nd though.
By the way do u have any pictures of the swimsuit section of the night of the pageant?
Thank you all for your lovely comments. I must say the pageant was a lovely experience. It really brought me closer to so many friends and family. I am extremely happy to know that people who have never met me have such wonderful comments to make about me. Thanks a million and all the best for 2004!!!
A nuh nuttin, Tracy. We’re just talking the truth, yuh simi? All the best for 2004 to you too…
