The Mad Bull’s Blog, Version 3

You know, a friendly rivalry exists between the islands of the Caribbean, and this rivalry sometimes manifests itself in discussion of the relative size of the islands. This morning, Francois and Danae of Fame FM were talking about Barbados, I guess because they were playing Jamaica in a regional cricket competition, and in the course of the discussion, Francois carelessly bet Danae a pizza and drinks that Barbados was about the size of one of Jamaica’s counties.

Danae was adamant that Barbados was only about the size of one of our parishes.

Once the bet was taken, the text line was going nonstop as people were sending in their text messages via their cell phones, weighing in with their opinions on the issue, but it seems that the opinions were pretty evenly distributed, so Francois checked it out elsewhere. It turns out that Barbados is about 166 square miles in size, or about the size of a… you got it! A parish in Jamaica! (Jamaica is 4,111 square miles, if you care.) Danae won the pizza and drinks! You go, girl! Looks like she was listening in Geography class when she was at Immaculate Conception High! I wonder if she was taught by Mrs. Fong Kong?

But I digress. So, Barbados is smaller than us. They are so small that Danae quipped about one of the things she found the funniest when talking to her Bajan friends?! She said that she found it hilarious When her Barbadian (Bajan) friends would tell her that they were going to the country for the weekend! “The country!” she exclaimed! “What, one hundred yards down the road??!!”.

Yeah, Danae don’t play! That girl mean, my bredrin! As they say, she romp rough!

Anyway, fun and joke aside, though they are littler than we are, they have our ticket in many ways… for instance, they enjoy 97% literacy, their economy is doing FAR better than ours, AND this evening, I found out that they beat us in that cricket match I mentioned earlier! They scored 198 and 251, while we scored 204 and 205 respectively…

Yes, Iyah, oonoo can gwaan joke bout Barbados, just know this! They might be little, but them tallowah!
