Why Not Indeed?
One popular cliche is the joke about how horrible mother-in-laws are… the relationship I have with my mother-in-law is special, I consider her to be my second mother. She is irie, and what follows has nothing to do with her. Indeed, I know she would never think that this was how I felt about her, but I don’t want anyone else to get confused, you zimi? Nevertheless, this one is classic, despite the fact that it is a cliche…
It has been said that one definition of “mixed feelings” is seeing your mother-in-law driving over a precipice in your brand new Pajero.![]()
That one deh irie, nuh true?! It was taken from an equally interesting article in The Jamaica Observer, which discusses the fact that no-one in Jamaica wants the U.S. Embassy anywhere near their home, though they do want the U.S. Embassy around! Michael Burke has an interesting solution to the problem. The bredrin thinks outside the box, IMHO! Check his idea out, mah peeps! It is not a bad idea…
Maybe he should run for Prime Minister… at least he has demonstrated that he possesses some ability at finding solutions to problems, which I do think we need.
Well, maybe it is because I don’t have a mother-in-law (yet), but somehow I don’t too rate the joke.
As for the Embassy Location…how about Lime Cay?
They could simply process visa applicants while sipping a rum and enjoying sand, surf and sights. I doubt it! Some of the male consular officers may get distracted when girls in thongs start to display what could be percieved as weapons of mass destruction?? You think???
i, too, have a great relationship with my mother-in-law,for which i am very grateful. but i know there are many who will well identify with this
Now MB, I not too sure bout the mother-in-law joke…mark you, my girlfriend’s mother only interacts with me in spanish only, so I not sure if I love or hate her yet.
You know Michael Burke used to teach me at JC…I don’t remember what the hell it was he taught me, but I know he taught me something that was valuable for life…wish I remember what he taught me though. Anyhow, I don’t know bout the US embassy in the little island off the coast still, regardless of where it is, the ol’ Taliban dem will find a way to attack it…and they will also find a way to make Jamaicans suffer for supporting the US, just like they did to the Spaniards a few weeks back [the train thing]…so, I don’t really see any amicable solution. Doc, why you would want to have your precious Lime Cay as a target?

Actually, I was thinking of Pedro Cay or Goat Island still….
