Miscellaneous Bull Shyte
The generator : Guess what? Even though it has stopped the sputtering and the missing, the generator has started to overheat and it shuts down approximately every three hours. I decided that I needed a specialist to get the problem dealt with quickly. Unfortunately, I don’t know any such specialists (meaning a spacialist in generator repair). The best that I can manage is to get the services of a general mechanic. I went to get the assistance of a guy I know who makes a living as a mechanic today. He is going to drop by my house this evening after work, lets hope he is able to help us.
Stuff thats on my mind : I do stand by what I wrote yesterday re the “No man is an island” issue. We really need to try to help each other out. At the same time, there are some people who rely so much on others that it can piss you off, iyah! Right now, there are entirely too many of this type of person intertwined into the threads that make up my life. I am going to have to devise some strategies to reduce their number.
Stuff in the news : Hey, it seems that the contest between Pearnel Charles and Bruce Golding for the leadership of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) has consumed the mindshare of most Jamaicans recently, judging by how many articles have been written about the campaigning of the two men for the leadership of the JLP. I read this article just today on that very subject. It was in the Sunday Gleaner from last week. In that article, Pearnel Charles stated that he didn’t think that the police are the real answer to our criminal problem. Mr. Charles said that he would address crime at the source, in depressed communities where criminals are spawned. He would throw socio-economic programmes at them rather than more guns and bullets. Mr. Charles said that if he became prime minister he would reduce the complement of the Jamaica Constabulary Force by half.
While I agree that socio-economic programs need to be developed to help address the problem of crime in Jamaica, any talk of reducing the police at this time is dangerous! If I were the one selecting between these two men, that statement alone would make me decide to vote for Bruce Golding. The police would have to get demonstrably more efficient before any reductions in the size of the force should be contemplated, IMHO!
Hurricane Ivan : The Cayman Net News suggested that Hurricane Ivan seems to have broken yet another record! It produced the highest waves ever recorded from a hurricane! Apparently a buoy registered a wave of 52 feet three days after it had passed Grand Cayman!
They also suggested that some waves of that height had bombarded Grand Cayman. How true is that last suggestion, I wonder? Grand Cayman is very, very flat, you know! I would have thought that if Grand Cayman experienced waves of that height, it would be wiped free of life! 52 foot waves hitting here and so few people died? Hmmm….
Re the generator….I agree that you need someone with know how to check it out. It is quite possibly overworked. Dem nuh really mek for long hauls. Whatever you do, I cannot emphasize…be careful wid it!
The dependent individual…I hope seh a nuh me. (Doubt that strongly). But I man know what you mean still. I hope you can work it out.
Bruce vs. Pearnel. Right now, all I can say is that the JLP is looking rather dismal. They have continued to show little if any unity as a party and if them nuh watch it, they will be out of the race in yet another election IMHO.
52 foot waves…maybe, perhaps out at sea. Licking Grand Cayman….as you seh…hmmm.
Call this my ‘post’ for the night….tiyad to rass!
Hope you get your generator fixed.
I hear good things about Bruce Golding, and I totally agree about the socia-economic way to go but as far as decreasing the Constabulatory Force..hmmmmm I don’t agree with that one at all.
Yes-we got reports that there were 50′ waves from Ivan, which sounded incredible.
I agree with your last post that ‘no man is an island’ and I also agree with the part in this post relating to that where you say that too much reliance on others is not good either. Those dependent folk need to take care of most of their needs, it is much easier to want to help when the help is not sought all the time!
Wowza, them are large waves that Ivan did cause, but I too have trouble with the claim that they swept over your island with little loss of life. I’m glad there was little loss of life, but I too would have to think these record waves happened away from land.
Hope the generator gets working better — it is something you are very dependent on now, I gather.
Pernell Charles must be crazy. Decrease the police force? Maybe control the police force. Definitely more social programmes would be a good thing. I am just glad it is not an election that I have to worry overly about.
