Me Ah Go Tell Yu Sumting…
… ah whole heap a ting… a bag ah tings, a crocus bag ah tings. – the lyrics to a song, though I can’t remember who sang it or the name of it. A virtual beer goes out to anyone who can Name That Tune! I don’t know if I can live up to the words of the song, mind you, but let me hold the mike and give you some lyrics nuh…
Yes, my crew… I just woke up from a good night’s sleep to the sound of rainfall… yup, after a good long break, it has been raining here a bit in the last few days. That is a good thing, because the grass was going all brown and stuff. I have the coffee in the percolator and I am sitting here chilling and reflecting that today is the last day of the work week, isn’t that great?!
TGIT! (Thank God its Thursday!)
Tomorrow is Good Friday! A special day on the christian calendar. I don’t think I am going to church, based upon my recent church going history and the usual length of the Good Friday mass, but I will be doing some reflection upon the sacrifice the Christ made for us. In fact, I may well rent “The Passion of the Christ” and watch it over. That ought to put me in the right frame of mind for the day…
I am not sure how the rest of the weekend will pan out, but they do have some excitement planned in the form of the fourth annual Million Dollar Run event. Its this boat race, it should be exciting. Dunno if I am going yet though… I will have to work upon Natty to get her to go.
Also, I want to put in some beach time, if I can find a clear spot to rest my body. On top of the usual holiday weekend influx of people on the beach…. (there is more)
On top of the usual holiday weekend influx of people on the beach, here in the Cayman Islands there is this strange practice (IMHO) where people go “Camping” on the beach, taking up way more than their fair share of space, IMHO! Still, if I can slot myself, MBJr. and Natty in edgewise, we’ll probably go. Also I want to take MBJr. to Smyles (a kiddie playground kind of place) and to see Ice Age 2- The Meltdown.
One thing I know is that I plan to shun the office like it was a leper, rude bwoy! (Actually, I have heard that the medical people say we really don’t have to shun lepers but hey, from the bible we know that they were ostracised and shunned, and I felt that you would get the idea if I said that. No lepers were meant to be hurt by what I said.)
So, what else do I have to chat with oonoo about? Well, the ReggaeBoyZ went to the U.S. and played a friendly match against them and came away with a 1-1 draw. Hey, its good to draw against them, and in the U.S. as well. A draw away from home is supposed to be a good thing.
A part of me is disappointed, however. The BoyZ failed to snap their winless streak agains the USA. According to this Jamaica Star piece on the game, Jamaica’s record against the U.S. now stands at nine losses and eight draws!
That is not good. Its full time we beat them, rasta! If skill alone not doing it, maybe we need to sent the team to consult some scientist (obeah man) from deep rural St. Thomas, what do you say? No, I am just kidding, but I mean! Its time we beat them, Rasta! I want to hear that we drubbed them so much I can taste it! Sweet! … … oh, maybe thats the taste of this Easter bun I have been eating! That must be it.
Yeah, man, even though I am not in Jamaica, Easter buns are on sale over here in Grand Cayman too! I bought us one and we have been nibbling our way through it and it is irie, you done know. I am not having bun & cheese, though… I don’t much like the cheese. I either nyam my bun dry or simply buttered. Thats how I-man love it still… how you mean, if I don’t nyam the cheese I am not a true Jamaican?! Guweh! You think say cheese alone can mek it? Cho… Well, I don’t like the cheese and that is that.
Yesterday while I was driving home from work, I heard a news item about a speech which the Prime Minister of Grenada, Keith Mitchell, delivered to some group (at least, I think it was Keith Mitchell). In his speech, Mitchell said that we here in the Caribbean needed to change our culture with regard to this desire we all seem to have for increasing emoluments of salary without a commensurate increase in productivity. Mitchell is right. What ever could be used to justify an increase in salary without a commensurate increase in productivity? Mitchell is to be applauded.
Yes sir, Mr. Mitchell, seeing as how you government blokes across the Caribbean have been our shield against the rigors of inflation and foreign exchange devaluations, our wanting such an increase can only be seen as absurd! Hold up, wait up! Dear reader, whats that you are saying to me? We ARE suffering the effects of inflation? What we were earning now cannot buy what we could buy five years ago, when we were earning less?! What are you saying to me? Wow! And you say that the very same people who have been jacking up the prices on the workers (i.e. the owning class), are complaining when the workers jack up their prices in turn? Lawks! What a wicked set! It can’t be true! So… you mean to say that when the rich people raise their prices, there isn’t a reason like increases in quality or more product in the package? So, where is the increased productivity on their side then?
And this Keith Mitchell… whose side is he on? Whose agenda is he pushing? Is it the agenda of the people who elected him, or that of some rich bredrins in Grenada who have “convinced” him this is the right way forward? Hmmm… We all will have to think some more about that. Actually, this whole story sounds familiar… in fact, it sounds like a story that is playing out in much the same way across the entire Caribbean, does it not. Fire bun pon the wicked politicians who not looking after the interests of the people who elected them, rasta! Mad Bull say so! Hey, Keithy, if it wasn’t you who said it, I apologise, but me sure say it was you…
Hey, lets change the pace… Doctor D commented recently that the members of the Cariblogrs crew have grown quiet of late. It is true, but when something like this happens, I simply turn to my non-Caribbean blogroll for much-needed substitution. I have a couple of new reads, actually, and they are quite interesting. The first of the two is “Waiter Rant”, a blog by a waiter in New York. It is a very interesting blog, which you can also tell from the number of comments the author receives. He usually averages maybe between 80 to 115 comments per day! (Its true, and I hate him for it
Trust me, people, Waiter is good! Go read him…
Another one that I have been reading sometimes is The Company Bitch. She is interesting as well, I think that my readers will not disagree.Go check out The Company Bitch.
You know what though? I will end the post here, but watch this space, zeen.
MB, dis post is more than a crocus bag full o’ things…dis is barrel come down from up north!
I still haven’t seen The Passion of Christ, I hear it too brutal
You got to watch tings like Ben Hur, The Robe, Barabas to get in the right religious mood.
Ice Age 2? My almost 70-year old ma goin’ to be very happy…she looooves Ice Age 1.
Man, I am too cynical about our Caribbean politricks so I stay away from it, they make me angry.
Shoots, I can’t believe the US beat the Reggae Boyz! The next thing you know, the US will have a cricket team. Oooh, maybe they will beat Australia hee hee
Yeah, is true, Waiter is goooood, he really is.
Bun with butter/margarine can work….but dry bun is…..DRY! (Having bun and cheese with margarine for breakfast as I type.)
Mitchell can talk all him want….dat is wah mout mek fah…and him a politrickster! Speaking of which, MPs here have been granted yet anodaa increase…I doh think dem let off the %age on the taxpaying public who going fund it yet!
Thought of a Lime Cay move myself…but still unsure. Perhaps a BBQ of sorts at the yard tomorrow nite, rope een some peeps…we will see. I wouldn’t watch Passion again….went way overboard with the beating and blood for me.
I tending to stick to the Carib crew of bloggers…but maybe I will see what the Waiter has to serve….
Have a good Easter..all o you.
I second that Bun and Butter argument. I can testify to that. It has sustained me many a days. I should come to Cayman one day. I hear it’s really good there. That Million Dollar Run should be good.
I knew about The Company Bitch blog, I had a link to it on my site. She’s pretty good, but there are reports that the blog is fake.
Ice Age 2 should be GOOD! Unfortunately, the next Ice Age will come and go before I am able to watch the movie, because I am moneyless.
Enjoy your holidays too. What a long weekend!
Well, the movie is done. I wonder why Mel Gibson ended it where he did, actually. If I was doing it myself, I would have included Jesus appearing to the apostles after His resurrection. Anyway, it was still a powerful movie. I know that a lot of people felt it went over the top in showing the suffering that Christ underwent. I don’t think it went over the top at all. I think the point needed to be made, because people tend not to think about it… instead, they think about the easter bunny and the easter egg hunts.
I am not really fighting down the easter bunny and the egg hunting business, but that should really be like a side show, just to entertain children. It is most definitely not the main thing, and in that I agree with the Cayman Blogman. Read what he had to say on the subject here…
As a rule of thumb, i never go to the beach on a holiday, never! Strange things can happen with crowded water.
As for the rain, yes we’ve been having it too, everyday in the afternoon. We wake up to brilliand sunshine, then by about mid-day, the clouds start to coming over the hills and then by about 2:30pm here come the rain. Don’t really mind it still, a blessings.
Enjoy your weekend.
“They” are planning some excitement…. who’s “they”?
Good question, Mister Ri, in this case they would seem to be a Miss Searlina Bodden of Monster Media.
BTW, when you seh people ‘camp’ out on the beach…you mean dem pitch tent and sleep out deh? I suppose that could be muy interesante with the right company still….
Yeah, they pitch tents on the beach and they stay there for the weekend… pon the best beaches, using up nuff space for their tents so that lesser mortals like myself cyah find nowhere to spread our towel!
