Free Paper Bun.

Since I went to Jamaica, I’ve been waking up late, say 9:00am. Its the type of shutters on the windows at Natty’s sister’s house. Scarcely any sun gets in until its high in the sky! Guess what woke me up today though? Nuh one damned rooster! It crowed right by my window, as if to say, “Welcome to the Cayman Islands!”.

Yes! Thats a 60 word story… count ‘em! It tells you that I went to Jamaica, it tells you where I stayed when I was there, it suggests that I got some rest, and that I am an early riser and finally, it tells you say me deh back a yard! No more rest for the wicked!

Yes, me deh back a yard. My yard this time, not the more general “Yard” which is really Jamaica. We touched down last night at about 10:15pm, after a very nice, quick flight. Congrats to Captain Hydes and Cayman Airways! (Hey, some of the Flight Attendants did cute you see! Anyway, thats a story for another time, doh want a bus-arse from Natty! ;) )

Since I can’t tell you all that I want to in just 60 words, I am going to just continue.
The trip to Yard (the more general ‘Yard’ this time) was quite busy. There were a number of personal matters outstanding and I managed to put them all to rights! I did end up spending most of the days last week stuck in various offices to get this accomplished, but maybe next visit I will be able to kick back at Lime Cay, at Doctor’s Cave Beach, on Seven Mile Beach in Negril or at Frenchman’s Cove! Just kick back and chill on the beach, you know? :)

It sounds delicious, don’t it? This time though, I had to keep my nose to the grindstone to get stuff done, and I am happy to say that my efforts were not in vain.

One of the ‘big ticket items’ on my list was to close off some outstanding business with the Jamaican Government. Click di link to read on, nuh?

I have been working on that issue for a year now! Through perseverance and a little luck, I was finally able to bring some closure to that issue. As my father-in-law said to me afterwards, “It was good that you stuck to it though, Mad! Perseverance is a hell of a thing, you know. As they say, ‘With perseverance, sweet talk and a little vaseline, monkey will get to fuck puss!’”. You know, I was wondering who this anonymous ‘they’ was who always said that, but anyway…

I did get a lot of other stuff done as well, though, even down to renewing my Jamaican driver’s license. I never even realised it had expired until I got there, can you imagine?

You know, I feel like I have to give thanks for the trip still. Thanks be to the Almighty for the way the trip worked out overall. To all those who invited me to their house and plied me with liquor… to all who took me to lunch… to all who gave up their bedrooms to afford us a wonderful place to rest our heads… to all who took me to play pool and last but not least, to all who loaned me their cars, I say thank you from the bottom of my heart! To all who I should have but didn’t get to visit with, nuh feel no way! Later will be greater! Next trip will be nothing but niceness. You ah go tired fi see me face!

I think I should say that I would like to be even more thankful in the near future, and you can helpme with this! You see, my high school bredrins are having a reunion in Jamaica over the coming week! This year marks 25 years since we all graduated from St. Georges College. The organising crew (which included Doctor D, big up to him!) has arranged a week of activities, with many link ups and opportunities for fellowship and catching up over the course of next week. Because I had all the stuff I mentioned above to do in Jamaica, I decided to forego going to the reunion. I knew that if I went there, I wouldn’t have the time to attend any of the festivities, and I didn’t have the funds to make two trips. Still, I wouldn’t mind touching down in Kingston for the Banquet on August 5th. This is where you all come in. Send me some funds, nuh man?! You know you would like nothing better than to fly me in to Jamrock for the weekend. I know that my happiness is your highest concern! Let me know if you want to help fund this trip in the comments and I will give you the necessary information on how you can wire the money to me, zeen? :)

Hey, pon a different note, I bucked up one of my Caymanian bredrins at the Airport in Jamaica. He had just flown in yesterday morning to attend the ATI series of parties in Negril. “So what are you doing at the airport now, then?”, I asked. After all, he hadn’t been to even one session yet, let alone to Negril! Turns out that he landed at the airport and picked up his father’s car, (yes, they keep a car over in Jam.) then he drove to Tropical Plaza and went into a store there for about half and hour. By the time he came back outside, someone had stolen the car, as well as his clothes and his passport! The rude bwoy said he never had the party vibes after that, so he just flew back home! He told me that the cops told him that this is the latest big thing, people stealing cars from the plazas by Half Way Tree, so oonoo watch out! Who have club, start using it again!

Now I am going to leave you with a lickle poetry verse. This is a poem that underlines what my next little project will be, and I am taking as a base for my verse the song “Stand Up for Your Rights”, by Bob Marley. I know, its not really creative to use other peoples’ stuff, but I don’t do creative before I’ve drunk my coffee in the morning, ok!

Some people think my belly is getting quite high,
they say, “Stop nyamming everything,
get out and get some exercise!”
They said “If you know what life is worth
You’d ensure your belly doh get round like Earth!”,
But I say, “Now I’ve seen the light!
I’m going to go pon one wikid diet!
Yeah! Me and the pounds gwine fight!
Its time to get some exercise!”.

Hope you enjoyed that. Its not the only project I am planning to get cracking on, but I won’t mention the other ones right now. Me gone go brew some coffee. Peace.

p.s. as you can see by the length of this post and the many topics covered, regular blogging has resumed… Selah.
