Di Dread a Weh Di Judges Loved!

Big, big congratulations go out to Zahra Redwood, Miss Jamaica Universe 2007, the first Rastafarian to have won a beauty Pageant. She looks nice still, although the picture is not the best. That picture was taken from Global Beauties. Imagine, I could not find a Miss Jamaica Universe site! Is plenty years now that they have been having Miss Jamaica Universe, you know! How come they don’t have a website? I wonder if its still run by Kingsley Cooper? Hey, Kingsley, stop being so rass claat mean, man! Get a website built for the Miss Jmaica Universe competition man! Cho!

Anyway, yeah, a rasta won the competition! Read about it here or here! Good for her! She won out against stern competition too, because Sanique Vacciana (the first runner up) is a real hottie! Zahra seems to be an interesting girl, she is into parasailing and horseback riding. She enjoys watching car racing on ESPN and also, HGTV.

Read more about Zahra here.

You know, we can have a rasta queen next year too, you know! All we have tro do is convince the Imperial Goddess to enter next year… Check her out.

If any of you my readers knows her, tell her that Mad Bull says she should enter, seen? She can win the Miss Jamaica portion easily and I also think she could do very well in the Miss Universe itself too! Or the Miss World, for that matter.

Speaking of the Miss World and of Miss Jamaica, I noticed that Global Beauties has also picked up the Sara Lawrence story. Sara has achieved more public attention by way of her becoming pregnant and resigning as Miss Jamaica than by her winning, to rahtid! Hey, even Eddie Seaga wrote about her, you know! The One Don had good things to say too, check him out here

In other news, Francis Wade has an interesting post up on the Reality TV show, The Apprentice, and on Muna, the Jamaican who was on the show. He discusses the fact that she was fired because of her accent and he ties that in with the issues and choices all Jamaicans face living and working in the Diaspora. It makes interesting reading. Gwaan go check it out.

You can’t say I haven’t given you a fair bit of Thursday reading now, can you? :)

TTYL, y’all!

  6. The Imperial Goddess is a real hottie. But is she a real Ras? With all the skimpy clothing and all? A Jamaiocan was on The Apprentice? How come that passed me? Still I haven’t seen it in a while. Congrats Zahara.

  7. @ Cranky Putz - With a face like that she can scare me anytime! :)

@ Leon - Apparently she grow up Ras. I guess that can make it sorta watered down like some of the catholics nowadays. :)

@ all who talking about how these women are living and yet they say they are rastas - things change. The modern world has had an impact on these ladies, I guess. Its probably for the best. I guess they are emancipating themselves from religious/mental/female rasta role slavery, if you see what I am saying… Dem “burning dem bra” like the suffragettes of old.

  8. Yeah, she nice. And BTW, I posted suppem……

First a female prime minister, then a natural loc’d up sistren….If Jamaica keeps this up, I might have to move back home. LOL.

Maybe now my mother will stop asking me when I’m gonna “take dem tings outta mi head and get a real hairdo”.
