Big Abroad, Not As Recognised ah Yard

I have always liked Half Pint! I remember back in the day when I had just started to work. I was working on Orange Street at the time in the Stores Department at a particular company. The nature of that job was such that I was usually mega busy until about lunch time, and then I was only moderately busy from that point until five o’clock. I used to do all kinds of things between 1:00pm and 5:00pm, including sleep, play cricket, lime, study, and also, listen to the radio.

I remember one day when Barry G (an MC who was the greatest thing back then. I wonder what he is up to nowadays? I read where he had suffered a stroke on Yardflex back in May…) decided to play nothing but Half Pint for awhile. That was when Half Pint really came to my attention, because all the songs being played were songs I absolutely loved, but I did not yet know who the singer was! I remember saying to myself, “Rass, you mean to say that is one man sing all dese songs that I love?! Him hard, rasta!”. And yes, Half Pint was hard! Click here to go to the “official site for Half Pint Music”.

Then one day, he just disappeared from the scene. You just couldn’t hear anything new from him again, and all kinds of rumours surfaced as to why. Since I can’t speak to the veracity of the rumours, I won’t mention them here.

Eventually, Half Pint started singing again. I was glad to hear that, but he was just doing his old stuff, just exciting his old fans. I was really hoping to hear new stuff from him, you know? That was a bit disappointing for me.

It was with great interest therefore that I read in the Jamaica Observer this morning that the city of Hartford in Connecticut was going to be giving Half Pint an award, and that he had been given the keys to the city of Lauderdale Lakes. (Personally, I wouldn’t mind getting the keys to just a house in Lauderdale Lakes from the mayor of that city, I wonder if Half Pint can’t arrange that for me somehow? ;) )

The news item also bemoans the fact that Half Pint was not getting so much recognition at home. Well, the music scene in Jamaica is a lively place indeed, you have to step up to the plate regularly or you get left behind and thats just how it is. The article also mentioned that Half Pint is coming out with a new album! My word! Interesting stuff!

Of course, making a comeback after so much time away will be hard! I wonder if Half Pint can do it? Personally, I hope Half Pint is able to give a really electrifying jolt to his career. I hope this new album takes off for him and catapults him to the front page of the Jamaican music scene once more. He seems to really be a nice guy, so I hope it happens for him.

In other news, I came across some photos of the current Miss Jamaica contestants. Let me share.

This is Jodi Shaw. What a girl look sweet! She immediately moves up in my rankings!

Also looking quite HOTT!!! is Tina Ingram! She phat eeeh? Blood claat! I believe that she is the one Owen says he likes!

And last but definitely not least, Rosina Casserley. Wonder why they didn’t give us the full picture though? Hmmm…

Based on other photos I saw (found them here), Sasha Gordon has moved down and Jodi Shaw has replaced her. My two favourites are now on shown in this post. I bet you can guess which two they are…

  1. I wonder why they didn’t show the bottom half of that Casserly girl…hmmm indeed.

They’re all quite attractive girls. I wonder who will win this thing.

  2. I hope mi naw set goat mout’ pon di man, but I thought Barry G died in the beginning of this year round the same time as Charles Hyatt. Hope I am wrong but I definitely remember bemoaning the last vestiges of my childhood.

I think Half Pint still has it. Was privileged to hear a freestlye session with him, Bunji and Tallpree a few years ago - an impromptu thing, and even then it sounded like he still had it.

No comment on the Miss Jamaica contestants…
