Well, I survived the beach yesterday. In fact, it was invigorating! I felt better after going. It was GRRREAT, as Tony the Tiger was wont to say!
I want to go again today, but I have been hearing a bit of thunder knocking around in the sky. I want to go in the afternoon anyway so maybe all will be well by then. (Updated : Well, I have gone outside since posting this and it looks to be a fine day! As long as this weather holds up throughout the day, the Seven Mile Beach is definitely on the agenda!
)
Anyway, enough about me. What a big thing Harry Potter has grown to be, huh? I saw two articles on the new Harry Potter book in the Cayman Compass today. Apparently lots of rumours and leaks of the book abound. Everyone wants to know whats up with Harry, and they don’t want to wait.
At least they don’t have to wait too long. The book has a globally mandated release date of 12:01 on Saturday morning. Thats tomorrow! Have you ever heard of such a thing? A book having a globally mandated release date? J. K. Rowling is big indeed! Much respect to her. Apparently the book will definitely be available shortly in Cayman, even if its not at 12:01 on Saturday. Should I call some people in the U.S. to find out what happens to Harry? Actually, I shouldn’t have to do that… It will be posted all over the ‘Net, I suppose.
Do you notice how they have timed the book release at the same time that the latest Harry Potter movie is running? Good idea, ent? Making use of the added visibility and increased mindshare of Harry Potter due to the movie to sell the books. Smart!
Harry is large, man. You know, when I was flying back from Jamaica to Cayman a few days ago, I was sitting with MBJr.’s copy of “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” on my lap and a flight attendant was walking past and saw it. She said, “Ohhh, Harry Potter. Lend me that when you’re done with it nuh?”. I was sort of startled, so I replied “Sure.”. She then said, “Whose is it, yours or your sons’?”. Then as I was about to reply, she exclaimed to herself, “Oh, that was so unprofessional! Sorry.”, and she walked off.
Again, respect to J.K. Rowling.
So are you planning to get the new book too?
Anyway, respect to JamaicaGirl2007 of “JamaicanLifestyle. She made me laugh this morning with a humourous tidbit about the Jamaican electoral wranglings. Apparently there was some political meeting or something and Pearnel Charles was taken to task by a group of people he was addressing over a huge pothole in the area he is seeking to represent. Apparently a man fell into the pothole and was injured, so it must really be huge! Pearnel retorted to the people that the hole was not his, it was Portia’s hole, and the people took offence! He had to explain that he really only meant to say that the hole was the responsibility of the sitting government, not him. Anyway, JamaicaGirl2007 tells the story better than me. Go check her out nuh?
In my opinion, since Pearnel is not yet representing the area, I don’t really understand why the people are quarrelling with him over any potholes. It really is Portia’s hole, IMHO.
Anyway, until I go to the beach, I am going to go watch the last DVD I rented from Block Buster, its the third CD from the set comprising the first season of the TV show “Lost”. I like watching TV series all at once, at my own leisure, without all the adverts, don’t you. So far, the show is quite interesting too. Hey, given the topics I have discussed, I just thought up the most scandalous title for the post! Updated: (snip, snip) You know what? After thinking about it, what I wrote here earlier really wasn’t that funny. It was just scandalous, so I’m just going to cut it out. Sorry to anyone who read it and might have been offended. ( end snip, snip)
Anyway, I am gone for the moment. Talk to you later! Ta ta, and have yourselves a wonderful weekend.
And to think, only dis mawning I was reading in the papers that somebody was appealing to the Jamaican public to behave in a matured manner about elections.
I used to have to go to parliament to do parliament news for tv [in Jamaica]…dem politicians was disgraceful, I won’t give details…
Oh shucks, I’ve never read not even one Harry Potter. I guess I should…maybe…
@ Guyana-gyal – if you saw the size of the book MB and MBJr. just bought – Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix – you may think twice! I love reading – but that book looked to be abou 2000 pages!!!!
When MBJr. picked it out, I was like “You’re kidding, right?” No sah – I’ll wait for the movie… I don’t have the wherewithall to sit through a 2000 paged book!!!
Holy shoot!!!! 2000 pages? Children read all that??
By the way, where ARE the other Caribbean bloggers?? They’ve stopped writing or something? Or too busy reading Harry Potter.
@GG : Well, thats exactly what I have been asking myself.
i must be the only person who has not read Harry Potter…
If the road falls under the jurisdiction of the Parish Council, then more than likely it is Pearnell’s pothole and not Portia’s.
Although I suppose ultimately it would be the government’s responsibility to fix the pothole since they control the funding given to the Parish Councils.
2000 pages geeeee i must just be getting there ….combining all the books i have read so far. LOL @G-G… really, does children read all that.
Pearnel…. and Portia’s Hole….. hello anybody knows Mr Miller number…
Trust me on this, the Harry Potter books are for the adults not the chillun. I read the first 4 while I was doing grad studies and at the time all my flat mates (fellow university students) were reading them.
Adults just pretend to buy them to the young uns. I’m not sure I like the movies. Then again, I usually prefer the books to the movies.
Lawd, we’re all tired and stressed out bloggers
So whosoever not gone on vacation just chilling quietly. I’ve been wanting to post, but so tired in the evenings.
Harry Potter is for adults, so I know that even if MBJr. doesn’t finish the book, I will. He hasn’t picked it up in a while, but he has passed the first chapter. I think he is in chapter three.
We have a new name for informer, ah Bobby!
Started reading one but never got thru it. Never even watched an entire movie either
I was baffled that MB Jr. would even CONSIDER picking up a book that size????
At almost 40 – yes, I know, its impossible to believe, but true… at this age a book that size sends me running for the hills!!!
Seven, Seven, Seven, Lay off the sensi. How you must be almost 40 and I am only 32.
