The Mad Bull’s Blog, Version 3

Well, Friday night came and went and the King of the Dancehall (the KOTD) sold out the Lions Centre! You might not think that is hard to do, given that the venue is sort’ve small but Beenie Man is the only person I have seen do it since I have been here, so Moses, large up youself!

People, the place was rammed! It was so rammed, it was hot like hell! Anyway, I had a hell of a time. I got there minutes to eleven, I think. They were bringing on a bunch of local artistes, local in the sense that they reside here. Of the local artistes, I would definitely say that Andrea Rivera was the best.

She and her dancers are pictured above, Andrea is the one in the full black dress, though I didn’t shoot the picture, I stole this picture from dancer Latonya’s MySpace website. Latonya is the one to the left. In addition to being one of the leading lights in the Caymanian music industry, Andrea Rivera is one of the contestants in the Miss Cayman World Beauty Pageant. She has a couple of local hit songs here and she did pretty well with the Lions Centre audience. She also did not overstay her welcome, because trust me, the audience was really there to see Beenie Man! Many of the locals got clapped offstage because of that fact, IMHO. Anyway, following Andrea Rivera onstage was Tessanne Chynn! She was pretty good too, that girl can REALLY, REALLY sing! What she needs is to luck out on a good song writer! I hope and pray she finds one soon, bwoy because she could be big like Rihanna…. Without the song writer and the right backitive, she may just end up like Diana King, another Yardie singer with world class talent who hasn’t yet “bussed out” fully on the world stage.
Anyway, Tessanne gave the ram-packed Lion’s Center audience about three songs they had never heard before, and she got a decent reception for them, then she gave them “Secret Hideaway” and drove them wild. By the way, Tessanne looked really really hot last night, so much so that I heard a girl (who looked pretty damend fine herself!!) standing nearby saying, “I wish I had her hair! I wish I had her flat stomach! I wish I had her ass!”. Trust me, this picture I used doesn’t do her justice, maybe when Partysurfers puts up photos I can show you one. Moving on….. yeah, people, of course there is more…. I haven’t told you about Beenie yet, have I?

Up right after Tessanne was D’Angel! D’Angel was a pleasant surprise! I had never seen her perform before, and she did much better than I thought she would have! She “swung” the crowd more than anybody preceeding her had done, she did a very good set! For someone who just had a baby not so long ago, D’Angel was looking really slim and trim, she was in this really short dress and she was lookin’ pretty hot too, though she sort’ve on the slim side for me… I prefer a woman with more meat on her, like Tessanne… Anyway, D’Angel did really well, she really got the the crowd going and I wish her much success over the years. I also hope all the fuckery thats going on in her relationship with Beenie and all the dutty songs people are putting out about her fade away quickly.

After D’Angel, up came RDX… They were pretty good too, they had a hit out recently, “Dance“, and they did a few other songs and then they did their hit song and they then made way for the King of the Dance Hall himself!

So, what can I say about Beenie? Beenie is the King of the Dancehall! He really is… he has been in this business from about the early 90’s, and when I say “in it”, if ah egg, him inna di red! (He has been deep in the thick of it!) He has done countless performances between then and now and he knows exactly how to work a crowd up and to get them to take part… on top of that, he has the songs to do it with! Hits after hits after hits after hits! Songs after songs after songs after songs!

Beenie Man has so many songs that were popular and which rode the charts at home that this is how he did the concert: He started out with some of his earlier music, and he gave two verses of the song, than he would “pull it up” (stop the band playing the song). Next one he did three, or maybe four verses before he pulled them up, and so on and so on.

All the while he was doing this, he would be dancing around the stage, working the audience, getting them to sing along with the chorus, or if the song was a collaboration with a woman, he would have the women in the audience sing the woman’s part in the song while he did his part. Every now and then he would stop and show a new dance move, or pretend that he was in bed with a woman, working her up from behind. One time, he even gave sex advice to the men in the audience, telling them how to treat a woman properly. “You don’t want your woman to come before you!”, he said, as he demonstrated what must be done.

As he came up to his newer songs, he would give more verses of the song than he had given for the older ones. He had the audience singing along, laughing at his jokes, dancing their feet off and begging for more! Beenie performed for an hour and a half, and he was great! I think that Beenie Man delivers a knockout punch on Friday night, rasta! He has set a high standard for the next performer brought to Grand Cayman to attain!

Yeah, boy, that concert Friday night was money well spent, rasta! Money well spent!
