My Obligatory Hurricane Post

Well, here we are, facing another mean, menacing hurricane. Check out the picture above… as you can see, by Monday morning, we here in the Cayman Islands will be undergoing a battering. It brings back scary memories… Yup, memories of Hurricane Ivan! And memories of after Hurricane Ivan… not really scary images there, but also not the most comfortable period of time in my life, as I recall it. Lets hope that this Hurricane Dean turns south and only just brushes us somehow, so that we get back electricity and water quickly after the storm is past.

Anyway, lets not dwell on the aftermath just yet…. we still have to make it through the storm! What state are my preparations in? Well, by this evening we should have our hurricane shutters up. We have in a bit of canned food, and I’ll probably go buy some more later. We have a fair stock of drinking water and several containers to catch water in before the storm arrives. I think we are looking pretty good, all things considered. I need some more batteries probably… some kerosene for our lantern…. dunno what else. Lets hope I am right in my estimate of our preparedness. (* knocks on wood *)

Oh! I have to take down my satellite dishes, mustn’t forget that. I will need to source some tools to do that… anyway, let me not bore you with the details. Here is hoping that we make it through the storm without too much difficulty and that I am able to blog about it pretty quickly afterwards. Lets hope that all y’all in Jamaica have a similar experience of the storm. (* raises beer bottle in toast *)

TTYL. Gone to go eat a couple patties….

  17. First time here in ages. Glad we all weathered Dean OK. Our water did not go. Got back electricity last night. House intact, yard looks like it was put in a blender, but the fallen trees can be replaced. Otherwise, all is well.
