Hey, all. I just loaded a plug in for Wordpress today, its Easy Gravatars Version 1.2, I think. What does it do? Well have a look at this picture below:
Ok, notice those blue rectangles that are empty? Thats where your gravatar would appear in my comment section, if you had a gravatar. When you don’t have a gravatar, it throws up that little empty box. Notice that beside my comment, there is a gravatar displayed. Huh? Oh yeah, I did go and get ahead of myself, didn’t I? Yeah, a gravatar is basically a picture, but its a bit more than that. You want to know what an avatar is , don’t you? Here is a definition: “A gravatar, or globally recognized avatar, is quite simply an 80×80 pixel avatar image that follows you from weblog to weblog appearing beside your name when you comment on gravatar enabled sites.” – definition taken from http://site.gravatar.com.
Now I’m thinking, it can’t be just me that has a gravatar, can it? And if this is the case, it shouldn’t be! Think how cool it’ll look if when you comment over by my blog, and your own gravatar appears beside your comment! You all should run out and get yourselves a gravatar, why don’t you? Signing up for a gravatar.com account is FREE, and all that’s required is your email address. Once you’ve signed up you can upload your avatar image and soon after you’ll start seeing it on gravatar enabled weblogs! (which include all wordpress.com blogs, and if the blog owner is running their own copy of Wordpress, they can put in the Gravatar plugin and get up to speed.).
What? You don’t want to put up your own picture? No problem. Choose any image you like to represent you, then stick with it. In no time, people will think of you whenever they see that image. It doesn’t have to be a picture of you at all, so thats not a good reason not to do it! I think its a cool idea, and I hope that I’ll be seeing your own Gravatars in my comments section soon, ok? Its not working for Stunner because he hasn’t set it up. Set it up nuh, Kami. Just go to site.gravatar.com and set it up.
Kami see how quickly I created a new one! For it to show up, all I have to do is use a different email address. Its super easy! Go ahead, take the plunge. I would love to see your picture gracing your comments.
By the way, that picture is really of me! Remember I have been saying that I’ve been going to the gym!
