Out of Many, One People? Hmmm….
Guess what I came across:
I saw this article in the New York Times (via Jamaicans.com) that was discussing how the election of Obama would affect the world view of America and in that article, Jamaica was held up as an example of racial harmony because the racial majority (black people) elected Edward Seaga (a white man) in as prime minister. Here is the pertinent bits of that article:
In the western industrialized world, full of university graduates and marinated in principles of egalitarianism, the idea of electing a member of a racial minority to the highest office seems an astonishing breakthrough. But Jamaica’s 95 percent black population elected a white man as its prime minister in 1980, and kept him in office throughout that decade.
This was interesting to me in light of the discussion that was taking place in my post of October 16th, which spoke of such things as being an example of the self-hatred and the hatred of all things black that is deeply ingrained in Jamaicans.
I guess its all about how you look at things, isn’t it?
Whats up with me?
Bwoy, I-man pain up yu see! Yes I, my hamstrings are complaining with every movement. I think it was the gardening I did on Sunday that caused it. That didn’t stop me from going to the gym yesterday though. Yeah, the first day of my week-long vacation was quiet. I took Simba to the vet (he has a urinary tract infection, can you believe it? How the ra$$ did he get that, I wonder? I had better tell him not to dick any more wooden pussy
), got some DVDs and just chilled at home, surfing and watching the shows, then in the evening I went to the gym.
What was the high point of the day? Probably the vet’s office, where I saw a Great Dane for the first time, with my own eyes, I mean. (Its a mini-horse, trust me!) I also saw some really cute Shih Tzu puppies.
What was the low point of the day? Well, Natty invited over one of MBJr.’s friends to spend some time with him. We arranged for him to be dropped over after 12:00pm, because of the aforementioned vet’s visit, right. The boy’s father dropped the boy over at 2:15pm and came back to pick him up at 4:00pm…. a lousy hour and three quarters… whats up with that?
He was barely there before he had to leave! I wonder why his parents only let him stay for that short period of time? Hmmm…. very strange. If MBJr. ever gets invited back over there, I think I will leave him there for half an hour. I wonder if they’ll understand why when I do it?
Whats up for today? I had plans to go to the beach today, but I just woke up and its raining. If it clears up, I will probably still go though. Anyways, TTYL. Go back to your sordid days at work, peoplez.
