Touching

Touch, originally uploaded by Stunnerj.

Yuck! Touching toads! Nasty. Picture taken from Stunner’s photo stream.

Actually, this brought back a childhood memory. Fancy that?! When I was a kid, we had a fish pond in the garden, had some fish in it, I think it was gold fish and coy, plus lilies… and also toads.

The toads weren’t welcome guests though and my Dad used to grab them by the leg, wheel them around over his head and fling them as far into the open land next door as he could.

Yes, I know, that was sort of evil, but hey, nobody is perfect. :)

  1. Wow!!

  2. You are not alone, I hate toads, especially when they get monstrously huge! I remember when I was a kid, the older youths used to kick them like football when the stumbled on an unfortunate toad. I always stayed far  I prefer the little frogs that don’t grow any bigger than my thumb, dem just cute  .

    Thanks for the credit.

  3. touching toads?? yuck!

  4. I don’t know why everyone in the Caribbean seems so afraid of them!

  5. @MarkD60 - Ugly like dat mus be obea.

@Stunner - I really like your pictures. But, I think that you should put better descriptions/tags on them. Otherwise, only locals will know what/where they are.

Resist the temptation to over process.

  6. Dad was our hero in getting rid of hideous little critters.

Stunner, I think you’re referring to Whistling Toads - at least in JA that’s what we have. They are cute and they make beautiful music!

I remember when Mom and Dad moved into their current house, Dad and I went to investigate a basement room under the house.

When he opened the door, I looked in and saw dark, dank, creepy space, but he marched in to check it out, while I hung back at the entrance. All of a sudden, I felt this ‘Weight” on my right foot. With a very bad feeling, I slowly looked down to see a HUMONGUOS TOAD sitting on my foot!

The entire neighborhood heard me scream boy! Dad was in hysterics, but he did get rid of that toad!!!

  7. Mark, I wouldn’t say I am afraid of them, I just don’t want them to touch me. Look at them! EEeeuuuuuuu! Stay far!
But if they invade my space and I want them out, they have to leave, and I don’t need to call anyone to help me get rid of them. Rahtid, I even cut one open alive for zoology class! (I must admit that the teacher had to pith the frog for me though. ) Trust me tho. if I want them out, they are going to leave! One way, or the other. No retreat, no surrender! Me not going to lotion, pet, or powder dem!

  8. I don’t like frogs so no sympathy if they die gruesomely

  10. Well, I not exactly friendly with frogs/toads, but I’d much rather a frog near me than anything name snake! BTW, the fish are Koi. First comment in me nuh know how looong……

  11. growing up I was told that they would spit on you and you skin would turn to the color of the toad. :(

  12. Oh no, Frogs, toads, whatever are quite yucky. Have you ever seen or smelled that awful stuff they spew from their backs when they are mad! You don’t want to be around when that happens! I remember an experience shortly after Hurricane Gilbert. We had not gotten back electricity yet and I was taking a candelight bath and saw what I thought was the bath stopper in the corner. I know I didn’t kick or touch it but then I saw it at the other end of the bath .. you don’t have to ask what it was!!!
