Bruce and the J.L.P.

In 1997, Bruce Golding founded the NDM, and at the time he espoused that he was leaving the JLP for many reasons, among them being it’s alleged links to gunmen, and because he disagreed in as fundamental way with the path the party was taking. He felt that the whole system needed to be reformed.

A couple of days ago, it was announced that Bruce Golding was once again within the JLP fold. I felt that many people would have a difficult time accepting that fact. It does leave a peculiar taste in one’s mouth. It is definitely possible that this could backfire and hurt the party, rather than strengthen them

I noticed that every letter in todays Gleaner Online was based upon this issue. There are seven letters, and only one is supportive of this move…

  1. PNP is going to win
Dem have more money fi spen
Pack up and leave that country my friend!!

  2. I think Bruce’s rejoining the JLP has to be looked at from two sides, Bruce’s and the side of the JLP. The way I see it, Bruce realized that he was out in the cold so to speak, as the NDM naw seh nutten. We are still, sadly so, a country with two party politics. Hence, sitting on the side of the NDM would be getting him nowhere politically.

From the JLP standpoint, the party is grossly disorganized and has little to offer. Their campaign is weak my yute. Their leader is an old man, whatever the outcome, the way I see it, this is definitely Eddie’s last election campaign. Bruce’s rejoining the JLP a mere three weeks before the election, is a half witted attempt at putting some stamina into the party. Whether it will really make any difference, I do not know. But, I suppose the letters to the editor can speak for themselves. Can he be regarded as a man of any loyalty? That’s questionable. I guess we simply have to sit back, watch and wait. Anyhow, I have said too much, and I am no political analyst, so let me escape before you say I’m chatting bulls…..
