Ahoy, Me Hearties
I’m just back from seeing Pirates of the Caribbean. You will recall that I said recently that one of the things I liked about weblogs were the reviews of movies, parties, trips to places, etc… Well, I am again giving back. At the same time, I’m going to try not to give too much away so as not to spoil the movie for anyone. Here is my review of the movie.
Ok, when I was leaving the theatre, I was right behind an older gentleman, and he turned to me and said “This movie was such a piece of crap!”. I immediately drew the conclusion that he was the sort of fellow who lacked an imagination and was emotionally dead.
The movie was great. A very interesting movie to watch, but if you’re lacking in imagination, don’t waste your time. You see, the movie is about pirates, pirate ghosts, gods of the natives of the Caribbean Islands, curses, and such delights. If you feel that these things are nonsensical, and a movie about such things is a waste of time, don’t waste your dollars. I will submit that you shouldn’t be going to movies at all, however, because no movie is real, and if you lack imagination, you shouldn’t go to any of them.
If you can suspend disbelief at all, it is a great movie. There is comedy, love scenes, action, suspense… There is a decent plot. The action scenes are great, but then you know I am a sucker for swordfighting… The love scenes are touching (and the leading actress (the Governor’s daughter) is pretty, which helps), the graphics are great…
All in all, I’d say it was a great, enjoyable movie… I think I could watch it again. Do go see it.
Oh, I know I said I didn’t want to spoil it for anyone. The next bit is a bit of a spoiler. Don’t click more unless you have seen it already, or you so enjoy my writing that it would be worth it to continue reading despite knowing something about the movie…
Remember when the Captain and Governor’s daughter were made to walk the plank and go to the desert island? The Captain told the Governor’s daughter that it was a place that the rum traders used to use, and he showed her the hidden stock of rum cached on the island, which she promptly set ablaze as soon as he had fallen into a drunken stupor? Remember that?
I could SO empathize with him when he drew his pistol and was contemplating shooting her for that act of sacrilege! Destroying all that rum… What THE HELL was she thinking?!
You like sword fighting? You got to see my new sword!
Admitedly, its only wood, but it is totaly realistic, and even weighted to be the weight of the real thing.
Bokken.
ou,bruises. owoe..
We saw the previews when we took the girls to “Bruce Almighty,” so we decided to take Mother with us to see “Pirates.” It was just a bit long, and I thought that they had so much fun doing the fx that they overdid it a bit, but I loved the movie! Depp was fabulous with his over the top swashbuckler, Orlando Bloom was superb, especially in his dueling scenes (I didn’t recognize him as Legolas from Lord of the Rings at first), and Geoffrey Rush was incredible as the evil captain. I’ve forgotten the girl’s name (silly me), but she did a fine job, and I’ll look forward to seeing her again.
Bloom is….well….BLOOMIN’ GORGEOUS!
