Miss Jamaica Time Again…
I saw where they had the eliminations for the Miss Jamaica World on Sunday night. Twenty girls were sashed from a total of forty six hopefuls. Apparently two of the girls had entered the contest previously. One of these two was a finalist last year, and the other was among the set who were eliminated on the first night! I can understand why the finalist from last year re-entered, but not the other girl.
If you failed to make the top twenty last year, why bother to re-enter, right? That should be enough of an indication to you that you ought not think of yourself as an exceptional beauty… This young miss was eliminated on Eliminations night once more. Not surprising… I guess she is just a sucker for punishment!
I hear that this year, the public will be able to influence the selection of the winner in the same manner as was done in the last Ms. World competition. Members of the public will be able to send text messages via cell phones to vote for the lady of their choice and this will affect the outcome. I think that this could prove to be a good thing for the Miss Jamaica Competition, as it will make the contest more interesting, but I worry about how it will affect the Miss World Competition, as things like population size will come into play.
As an example, even if everyone in Jamaica were to send in 5 text messages voting for their choice (Miss Jamaica), they would be swamped if even ten percent of Americans sent in a single text message to vote for Miss USA. We won’t even consider places like India and China… I don’t know if it is fair to do it on a world scale… Hmmm….
About the girl who competed for the second time. She may have felt that she had a better chance against a different group of contestants. Having failed to make the cut the second time, she should call it a day.
Some people never learn….maybe she will this time.
As for the text messaging…..may be I’m just not into this damn cell phone-itis that is afflicting the world…perhaps I’ve been immunised against the contagion!
Well,I guess entering twice without winning even a third place says a lot…….. I think the voting system was an excellent idea and the competition seems much fairer this year.
