In This Day and Age?

I heard that the winner of the Ms. Thailand World beauty pageant was stripped of her title. Her crime? She was married!

Apparently a Thai newspaper ran a wedding photo of her, and the organisers of the pageant disqualified her and withheld her prize money. They said that the laws of the pageant stipulated that none of the contestants could be married either at the time the contest was going on, or ever before!

Now let me ask you… what is wrong with a married woman being in such a competition? What, are married women suddenly not beautiful? (I know quite a few married men who might very well be nodding their heads emphatically to this question, but rude youths, me nuh buy that!)

Whats the big deal with a married woman being in such a competition? Could it be that they feel that the winner of the competition will have many duties to perform, and will need to be away from her husband for long periods of time? If that were the case, they shouldn’t allow women to be actresses, or flight attendants, or to be in the armed forces then!

I don’t know about you all but it sounds kind of stupid to me. I bet it has something to do with them having a “virginal appearance”! You know how they are still talking about these women needing chaperones and bullshit like that! Whats up with that? In this day and age? Women are empowered nowadays. They don’t need no fecking chaperone! What a bunch of bull!

In the words of Eddie Seaga, “Mash down that lie!”.

  1. A Mrs. can’t be a Ms. or you’ll have a mess in your midst. mi gone!

  2. True words, Duppy… Maybe they need to change the name of the competition to Ms. That way, the title will match, married or unmarried…

  3. And what makes a Miss virginal????? Bulls yes….I say we nominate you the one to make rules fe beauty contests worldwide!

  4. I do see the point of disqualifying her as the contest clearly is for singles being it is a ‘miss thailand’. Damn them beauty pagent contests… they should loosen up and change the name and the rules, let the marrieds compete too (those that have the other qualifications).
