Uh Oh!

Monday night I went to a family dinner by my Mom’s house. We were there until about 11:00PM. We got a call from someone who had left before I had, telling us to tell the others who were leaving not to drive by Manor Park, because a policeman had been shot and killed down there. This seemed to be a signal to all and sundry to go home, because all the other guests left immediately. (I wonder why?) I decided to stay back and pretend to be a dutiful son, helping with the cleaning up exercises, so I left a bit later than the others.

I decided to pass by the scene of the crime, mainly because I thought that the danger level would have evaporated by that time and it was the most direct route home.

When I arrived upon the scene, there were still large numbers of people, police, news reporters, etc. milling around, and thus there was a bit of a traffic jam. Apparently, the police officer drove up to the light which was red, so he stopped. A vehicle stopped behind him, and three men alighted, approached his car and fired upon the officer, killing him. Apparently they picked up nineteen spent rounds. They then seem to have stolen his service firearm.

This all occurred right by the Discount Pharmacy, on the corner of Olivier Road and Constant Spring Road, right in the heart of my stomping grounds! I drive by there several times a day! This is certainly not what we’re used to in my neck of the woods… Its all quite frightening!

  1. Well Mad Bull, though there are people that I know who have told me that they could never do my work (doctoring), I must admit, if I were at the stage of my life thinking about career choices, becoming a member of the Police Force or Military here would not be an option. It’s just too risky. The criminal elements really seem to be targeting the Police. Sigh!

  2. simply terrifying.

  3. MB, that’s just too close to home for comfort! Be careful you guys - one never knows what can happen these days!
