Moving Sux! Big Time!

You know, intellectually I’ve known for some time now that we are going to be moving, but it didn’t really hit me until today. I guess the reason for that is because Natty has been doing most of the packing of things away in boxes while I was at work. I took off today and tomorrow from work to help her out, because its crunch time now, and as soon as I lifted a few items off of the top of cupboards in preparation for packing them away in boxes, it began to sink home.

Actually, its kind of like those armor piercing bombs that the U.S. boasted so much about in the ‘Shock and Awe’ publicity blitzkreig that they unleashed upon the rest of the world. I lifted a few items, and the idea began to sink in. That was like the bomb striking the earth and beginning to burrow into it, without exploding. What caused the explosion was when Natty asked me where I thought the bookshelf with all my computer books would go. As I mulled this question over, the bomb exploded!

“You’re moving, dude! Yeah, its a nice place, but its a SMALLER nice place! You might have to chuck some of that nice stuff you’ve been accumulating over the last five years or so.”.

My initial reaction was dismay! Having had a stiff V/X & Ting or two since then, I have made the decision… everything but the beds, the TVs, the stove, the washer and dryer, the crockery, a favorite chair or two, my computers, AND my computer books must go!

Now, I just have to get Natty to agree with this… Yeah, right!

Thats the problem with women, you know. They tend to be accumulators, and they collect the strangest things, and once they are collected, they cannot be gotten rid of. Hell, they collect stuff just because they look good, like figurines, or stuff like that. Women don’t consider the utility of the item, just “I want it!”.

My computer books now… Sure, I may not read every book from cover to cover, and I may not read them every day, but when I need them, they’re like GOLD to me! And they serve a higher purpose, other than just looking good, dammit! They’re important!!!

So, you could understand if I were to scream “Blast it to HELL!!! Her tendency to collect space-taking things of beauty makes NO sense! Lets throw all of her stuff out!”.

The only problem with that approach is that I might fall into the category of things “that serve little or no purpose, excepting sitting around ‘looking good’ “! In which case I ought to be thrown out too, am I right?

Clearly this deserves a bit more thought…

  1. I hate moving…bad thing is it’s only my stuff to move
    hope yours goes smoothly!

  2. Had no idea that moving would result in such lengthy posts. Oh well, it soon done, trus me. At least it is a good time to dish all the accumulated crap! I have plenty….wouldn’t like to think how long a move would take me.

  3. Moving and V/X?…. not a good combination. I’m quite interested in natty’s take on your suggestions. I know the feeling though. MOVING SUCKS!!! Hang in there guys this too shall pass.

  4. Moving brings out the worst in most of us. It definitely does in me!!! Aaaahhh MB, I’m sure Natty will keep you around for a little bit longer….if even just to lift the boxes….smile!!!!

Only joking my brother. You are too cute and special to throw away…..at least, most days I’m sure…..smile

  5. We’ve lived in this house for fourteen years, and the basement is STILL a wreck. It doesn’t help that DH has started a 22 foot day sailer and a canoe in the basement, and they still reside there unfinished. I think this winter we are going to get our exercise cleaning it up. I’m scared to death that I’ll have to deal with it on my own one day.

I had a dream the other night, that we had moved shelving like the kind you find in a Sam’s Club or Costco into our basement…. I was SO disappointed when I woke up and it was just a dream!
