Tings Ruff A Yard!
All the talk in the air is about the imminent collapse of the economy.
From the Government’s standpoint, wages and salaries are too high, revenues are lower than expected, and the foreign debt burden is right at their backs. They are between the proverbial rock and a hard place.
Just yesterday, the lead story in the Gleaner spoke to the closing of many high schools due to the Government being unable to meet its obligation’s to them. This will affect 120,000 students! The Ministry of Health owes billions, the Ministry of Security owes billions, everybody owes! Some writers speak of the fear of social upheaval and unrest!
One writer gives us an apt description of the Government’s situation. Picture a man driving a rickety car with worn tires along a tortuous mountain road with precipices on both sides. As the driver begins to descend, the brakes fail. The driver has to steer the car along this tortuous road and hope that the tires don’t blow out, and that he doesn’t fly over the precipice at either side. As the writer says, what is needed is a skillful driver, or a driver skillful at prayer!
