Christmas time in J-A
Ahhh! Christmas time in J-A. So, what does one do for entertainment in J-A at Christmas time. As is always the case, one can go to a stage show, or to a pay party. One can go to the movies, or to dinner at the homes of family and friends. Unfortunately, this year, Natty and I haven’t been able to attend any pay parties, although there have been puh-lenty, and some of them have been reported to have been pretty good. No, we haven’t been to any parties, but we have done the dinner thing! I have been stuffing myself with ham and other assorted meats, and swilling Appleton Estate and V/X rum like a pig! Not to worry! January 2 will bring back sanity, I guess. Of course, there is more…
Sai Fyah came down from New York for four days and apparently a foxy babe that he met at a family dinner took him to a party at Temple Hall called “Blink”. He said the party was pretty damned good, and the fox was to take him out again last night. He had some amorous hopes for how the night would turn out, but who knows how it all worked out for him? What I do know is that he temporarily lost his passport and was all in a tizzy over that. Mamacita says he lost his passport because he is too girly-girly, but I don’t know if I subscribe to that view… Anyway, he flew down to Negril yesterday to cool out for a couple of days at a resort hotel down there called Riu… or was it Sandals? Whichever one it was, the young man is living the good life, bwoy!
Natty and I were hoping to go to the Frenchmen Party on New Years Day, but we haven’t been able to find any tickets. Apparently the tickets went like hot bread, to rass, despite the fact that they costed J$4,500, or about US$75 each! I don’t feel too bad about not going, because though I know the party will be fabulous, thats US$150 burnt up in just one night!
A new night club was recently opened in New Kingston. Its called the Quad, and it is a multi-story night club. It really is four night clubs in one, as each floor is a separate club. Apparently the ground floor is a jazz club, the second floor is for the youngsters, with all the latest music and dances, the third floor is an oldies section and the top floor is like a V.I.P. area. It sounds interesting. Natty and I are going to have to check it out soon. The club is owned by Brian Chung and Chris Cargill, and there was a write up on them and the Quad in the Gleaner, check it out. Ciya, remember the days of the Spinners disco? Read this article, Spinners gets a mention.
I have also been to the movies once, as I have already mentioned, and I plan to go to see “The Last Samurai” tonight.
As for stage shows, I thought of going to Hot Shots, but didn’t, and it seems like it was a good thing. Some of the main acts didn’t appear, as the show ended prematurely due to rain. The next big stage show was Sting, and here is the write up on Sting! All the headlines read “Terror at Sting!”. What a thing! First off, the crowd took to bottling any performers who didn’t thrill them, including the blind Frankie Paul. Then Vybes Kartel and Ninjaman came to blows onstage, and V.K. seems to have kicked up Ninja’s rass, which I am sorry I never saw, as I can’t stand Ninjaman, but still, that shouldn’t have happened. This fight led to the crowd becoming even more agitated. Finally, when the promoters announced that Bounti Killer wouldn’t be performing, pandemonium reigned! Bottles rained everywhere! Automatic gunfire rang out! People stampeded for cover, and at least 20 persons were injured. As Natty said, its full time they ban Sting.
Anyway, the police have said that Christmas was pretty peaceful, and we’ve been having a nice time, so thats a good thing, I guess… TTYL, mah peeps…
Thats why I don’t go to stage shows. if that is the kinda vibes that Vybes Kartel carries den him can stay. Violent muthas!
I like you have been doing my best to try and deplete the national stock of VX….what can I say? Christmas comes once a year. When I got up Christmas morning before getting out of the bed I thought of all those family and friends that I have lost over the years…I’m sure you might have as well at some time during the holidays. Live it up rude bwoy…..in whatever way you like.
Well MB, I went to East Fest last night. It was pretty good, got in at the right time. One friend was pickpocketed of six gran! (this guy was the one who was warning everyone to secure their pockets)
That was the only incident! Saw fabulous performances from Marcia Griffiths, L.U.S.T., Morgan’s Heritage, Gregory Issacs, Beres Hammond, Sizzla, Capelton, Beenie Man.
Wicked show, no disapointments, some guys got a bus and about 21 of us went. We featured nuff liqour on the bus etc.
Bus was overbooked thats why i did not invite you. We had to be turning back people! Its nice not to drive to an event like that, you can consume more alcohol and the bus has a nice vibe. Got back home at after 8:00 am…
I agree with Natty, the crap has to stop somewhere. Every year you can rely on the media to have a sensational story about the war that goes on at Sting. Time to ban it!!! What is amazing is that people go back every year for the same clash up. I guess they get some thrill from ducking gunshots.
Hey Stephan, I hope you got pictures of some of the artistes as they were performing, so that I can post them. If you want to, I can elevate you to “roving reporter” status and you can write up a review of Eastfest!
Scratchie, they are crazy at Sting! Francois from FAME went, he said that Frankie Paul got on and sung only one line from his first song and they started bottling him! He couldn’t have turned them off in such a short time! There is just a set of indiciplined, disgusting people who go to Sting who only want to see DJs, and so when they brought on two singers in a row, they got ballistic.
Truly disgusting set, and they go to Sting every year! That is why I say “lock eh dung!”.
Problem wid dis is dat nuff o de people who a walk freely in Ja. behave like de cockroaches that gather at Sting. We get weh de duck get bredrens.
Yow, look like we may well be seeing the end of Sting!! I guess time will tell eh?
