Oldies But Goodies!

A good friend of ours bought a webcam and I installed it on their PC during lunchtime from work. I couldn’t stop to test it with any Instant Messenger clients because of the time. I asked Natty to download the latest AOL IM client and set it up to use the webcam for me.

Sounds simple, doesn’t it? The PC was already using AIM, so upgrading it should have been a breeze. Its a new-ish PC, running Win XP… No Problem, mon!

Well, I don’t know what went wrong, since we installed and de-installed the new version of AIM several times, but all to no avail. It just would not work! When you tried to login, it threw up an ‘error report’ window, complaining about ntdll.dll, or some such file… wierd huh? And did I mention that our friend used her old copy of AIM quite heavily?

Anyway, all was not lost, as there is always Oldversion.com!!! I went to that site and downloaded a slightly older version of AOL IM and guess what? It worked! They have quite a few different software tools like AIM, WS-FTP and so on, so if you run into a similar scenario, give them a try, ok? Latah!
