Dah One Yah Wikid!!!

Las May is really wicked, you know! smily

Isn’t that one ironic, don’t you think? It really is a classic case of the pot calling the kettle black!

On a totally different tack, in 1992, the police at Constant Spring went into Grants Pen and rounded up some men for ‘processing’, I guess they call it. The men were detained while the police checked them out to see if there were any crimes they could pin on them. The police locked about 19 of those men into a small cell with a metal door for about two days, and at the end of that time, three of them were dead from suffocation!

There was a big stink raised over this, and the family of the men took the matter to court. The courts eventually awarded J$999,560 to the family of one of the men, Agana Barrett.

Melville Cooke writes an article in todays Gleaner in which he says that this award is a paltry sum, and that the lives of poor people in Jamaica are deemed to be almost worthless!

I knocked Melville Cooke recently for the stuff he writes, but he had done well with this article too, so soon after the last one!

Its well worth the read, go and see what he has to say nuh?

  1. First off, when I saw the cartoon, my response was, “I had thought the same thing when I saw the headline in the newspapers a few days ago that Seaga said that Aristide must go!”

Poor Eddie…I think he is an Energizer wannabe….thinks he can keep going, and going, and going….problem is him battery dem well dead!

Regarding Cooke’s article…..have to give him credit yes. It is one thing that he asks if the woman can swim. Can she afford to maintain a house with a pool? Not many people I know can.

Another example of the poor being taken for granted. Do you remember in the early 80s when Mavis Gilmour (Dr.) was the MP for the area in which we lived? She was at the time, Minister of Education. There was a concern at that time about the poor attendance of children at primary school. Why they may have not have been attending school is another question. So, they came up with the school feeding programme, which in all honesty, was not a bad thing. Use some government funds to feed needy children and put suppem in dem head in the hope that down the line when they get older, they may be able to become decent citizens who can help to build our nation in some way.

Dr. Gilmour went on national TV here and made a big speech about offering cheese to children to take home if they attended school, “And, if you come to school on Friday, you get a big piece of cheese to tek home for Momma!” That was part of her political campaign at the time…I believe she lost her seat if I remember correctly.

A large percentage of our population is illeterate. Do you think that is so just by chance??

  2. Actually, think that should be Duracell.
