Looking Back in Time
Yesterday, I was supposed to go to Lime Cay (Click the previous link for pics I took at Lime Cay,and here for pics other people took…) on a really fancy boat to celebrate a bredrin’s birthday with him. Another bredrin came around to my house on Saturday night and we had a really good little lime, so much so that I completely forgot my Sunday mission! The bredrin stayed until about 2:00AM, and then I went online and chatted with Jamie until about 3:00AM, so you done know that I stood no chance of waking up in time to make the Lime Cay trip!
A Sistren, Tekeisha, was telling me how irie it all was, and she pointed out that there were lots of ‘rear tropical birds’ on the beach (some Russian strippers and Latinos in thongs) and that I missed a lot of the ’sights’… She joked with me that I must be getting old, because I ‘pop down’ the Mas Camp move on Friday Night and then missed the Lime Cay trip on Sunday too!
Anyway, I used the day fairly constructively, doing the supermarket routine and helping Natty with the laundry, and that was ok too. While I was up and down doing my ‘homework’, I stopped and took the picture above… That is a picture of Orange Grove, taken from Mountain Slope. That is the neighbourhood where I spent the vast majority of my teen years. It is the area which both Seven and Ciya of ‘The Tower of Babel‘ say was their favourite among all the places where my parents, brothers, sisters and I resided, and it is where the good fellow Doctor D still lives!
Hey, heres a picture of the house we used to live in, taken from a similar vantage point. Maybe Seven and Ciya will get a kick out of that!
I actually pass by the old house pretty regularly now that I live so close to Orange Grove again, as I have started walking with the Doc. some evenings for exercise.
Hey, enough of the Grove… I read what I consider to be one of the best columns that I’ve read by the Jamaican Paleface. Its about his departed mother, and his efforts to commune with her spirit, and its funny, yet sad and touching all at the same time! Maybe I am seeing it that way because its getting nearer to the anniversary of Sixty Five’s death, I dunno, but I’m sure you will all find it a good read too, so go and check it out!
TTYL.
Pictures look very familiar…..I’ll check Paleface later when I have time.
So, the bredrin keep u up so late dat you figet Lime Cay…..a so it go sometime. The weather pon Sunday didn’t really seem like beach still….but I guess it couldn’t have been that bad out there.
