And the Name of the Game Is…
Kalooki! Yeah man. We played Kalooki last night. We played two games and I did pretty well… I ran second in the first game, then I decided to let someone else play my hand to learn the second game. So that the learner didn’t slow down the game too much, I sat there and played the hand with her, and guess what? We won, baby, yes, we won!
Today, Natty cooked Shrimp Fried Rice and chicken, which we are taking around to Shoma and the DSS Doc. We will eat some good food, drink heartily, and then I’m going to kick some more butt!
Hey, guess what? Ciya told me she was playing Kalooki last night too. Sounds like its a family tradition, huh?
Oh, and guess what I did today? I washed the CR-V!
Why the shocked face? Because this is just something I never do! The last time I washed a car was back in the late ’80s! Can you believe it? I don’t know whats getting into me!
By the way, it seems like something similar to “Ultimate fighting” seems to be taking off in Jamaica! Apparently they had a freestyle martial arts competition at the Mas Camp on Oxford Road on Friday night! Apparently this is the second such competition (the last one was in St. Ann, I believe) and they managed to put together 11 match fight card! Apparently the big fighting style of the night was Capoeira, an Afro-Brazillian fighting style that is pretty awesome to watch… it looks like dancing! I wish I had been there to see it, Iyah!
People, they even had at least one fight between two women! Mi sure that one of my bredrins (who we will call Granny) would wish he had been there too, because there is nothing he loves more than a good cat fight! This may well have been a bit more than he would have bargained for though…
I have watched ultimate fighting on TV and I liked it. I think I would like to attend one of these events… I wonder if there is anyone who can give me a schedule of such events in Jamaica, so that I can see if I can fly down for one of these events? Anybody with access to this info, just holler, ok?
Later…
Ultimate fighting? you barbarian.
i just had a conversation yesterday about washing car. i was telling the person, that when i had my car, it got washed maybe 3 times a year, and never by me. in grenada i washed one, one time. what’s the use? especially in rainy season. you drive in a puddle of dirty water, and then sploosh…dirt again.
That is one of the perks of having a 12 year old son - He washes my car.
Still haven’t found anyone here who knows the game and will play with me.
Goddess, it looks as though you’ll have to take a trip to this side of the world to get your game on! Just shout me when you’re coming and I’ll set it up!
Goddess…..never mind, there are far more interesting things to do in the Caribbean than to waste time playing Kalooki…it is what bored people do!
When I first read….I read that “I crashed the CRV”….rather than “washed” and I was like…. Lawd a massy. Anyway, I guess if work gets hard to come by down there you know wha you can do fe mek a smalls!
Jus cool.
