The Musical Baton

Ok. I usually don’t get passed batons of any sort, so I was a bit sluggish out of the blocks. I guess the reason is that the first question kind of stumped me… I hardly have any music at all on my PC… probably less than 30 Megabytes.

Anyway, Brother Owen passed me the baton, and though I have taken awhile to respond, here goes. In case you haven’t yet guessed, this is one of those meme-y things that we bloggers waste time with every now and then, you know, where a bunch of questions are posed and plenty-plenty bloggers answer them. Here are the questions and answers…

Total volume of music files on computer:
110 GB on a server at work! Yup, I don’t have much music on my personal PC, but apparently I work with some very dedicated burners! Music of all kinds, of all genres! 110 Gigabytes of it, on a server at work! Awesome collection. By the way, have I mentioned to you that all the servers at work are named after liquor? Yessir! Theres rum, gin, tequila, vodka, etc, etc, etc… can you guess how much the people I work with are party animals?

The last CD I bought was :
Actually, I bought two at one time, there were both Morgan Heritage CDs, “Don’t Haffi Dread” and “Three In One”. Good music, rasta!

Song playing right now :
Actually, nothing is playing right now, but yesterday evening in the car, I was listening to the Now compilation CD, the one from 2004, with Switchfoot’s “We were meant to live” on it.

Five songs I listen to a lot, or that mean a lot to me :
Like Owen, I listen to new songs a lot, repeatedly, until newer ones replace them, but I play the old ones on occasion. I cannot say that I can think of any songs that really ‘mean a lot’ to me. I guess some of the older dancehall, from when we used to party hard… Hmmm… what’re the songs that I’m into right now? Up to recently, it was almost anything on the “Drop Leaf’ riddim, but nothing else has really taken over my headspace since then…

Five people to whom I’m passing the baton :
Ok, I am picking Doctor D, because he is my pasero, who me know from my eye did deh a mi knee solar plexus, or thereabouts. I am picking Jdid because he seems to be really into music and thus should have lots to say. I am going to pick Fyr, because she seems to be a real computer techie (like me, except shes a girl) and therefore I’m interested to know where shes at on the musical front, I am picking Trouble because he is my island-mate (in the same sense as a person whom you share a house with is your roommate, so no fiesty comments from the penny section smily) and finally, I am picking Yamfoot, whose favourite song is probably “Rally round the West Indies” by David Rudder, but I must admit I cannot guess anything more about her musical tastes, and so I thought I’d add her here…

Hey, I doh mind the questions, but maybe we could have a bit more fun with it, so I am going to add a question, seen? Do you like to make love with music playing in the background, and if so, whats the usual choice, genre-wise… which music do you use to keep the vibes going, to stoke the passion higher? Since I asked it, let me answer it : I don’t usually have music playing when I’m going about that kind of business, cuz too much noise will raise MBJr. and then the party would flop, you done know! When I can though, dancehall is a good choice… the riddims can lend some riddim to your own efforts, you zimi? smily

Now listen, my chosen people. Don’t let this stress you out. If you not up to it, don’t bodda wid it, but if you’re in, accept the baton and see how far oonoo can carry it nuh? Respect! I’m out.

Five songs I listen to a lot, or that mean a lot to me :
    1. Reasons - Earth Wind & Fire

    3. Dancehall Queen - Beenie Man and Chevelle Franklin (before she went gospel)
    4. Let’s get it on - Marvin Gaye
    5. All the songs on my gym cassette.

Who I’m passing the baton to?
No one. Don’t got the time.

  3. 110GB??? Rass MB, you can start your own music industry!! Thanks for reminding me, Owen did pass the baton to me the other day, nuh true!

  4. I started here and it got so long that I thought I’d put the bulk of it in a blog post of my own.

But the short version of my answers are thus:

I’ve 4GB of music on fuzy - mostly oldies and a rather large Bob Marley collection - 104 tracks in total Bob - a man of great talent!

The last CD I bought was actually 3 - in Florida - Def Leppard’s greatest hits, Maroon 5 and Sarah McLachlan Afterglow LIVE.

Song playing right now? None - TV is on in the background - looks like Barber Shop 2. I don’t always remember to put music on since I prefer to have something that can capture my attention - like the TV.

Five songs I listen to a lot or mean a lot to me:
    1. Bring me to Life - Evanescence - it just speaks to me and I am not exactly sure why.
    2. Bullet the Blue Sky - U2 - the first U2 song I ever heard… and it made me fall in love. LOVE that band. :-) 3. Paint the sky with stars - Enya - any of her songs at any time is a favourite - this woman has just GOT THE MUSIC in her blood man.
    4. Eternal Flame - Bangles - the first and only song I ever shared with someone
    5. Unchained Melody - Righteous Brothers - a beautiful song - and that’s just that.

    Passing the Baton?
    1. Mah Sis just cos I have to share everything with her.
    2. Gail -cos she’s mah GURL. :D
    3. Yolospat cos I wanna hear what she has to say.
    4. DJ - cos his musical loves know no bounds.
    5. … not sure who to put here.

I expounded a bit on this response on my blog for those who care to take a look.

  5. Oh - forgot your last question MB - no, I don’t normally remember to put music on for that special time at all…. just the candles. ;-)

  6. @Fyr : Candles? Hmmmm…
@Angry Dawg : Remember, AD, it was built by others, not I. I have only donated about 4 CDs so far…
Dr. D, you flop the show, but a so…

  7. yea- candles… candlelight is very… *ahem* complimentary to the occasion - especially if it scented. *grin*
