What a Gwaan

I went into a church today for the second time since coming to Grand Cayman… the last time, I had taken M’Buthelezi to church one Sunday morning. She had just come over to Cayman from Jamaica and she was still all gung ho with regard to the church vibes and one morning I decided to travel with her, but she hasn’t been able to convince me to return so far… actually, it seems like her religious fervour has worn off a bit too, because I don’t hear her saying that she still going herself either, and she lives MUCH closer to church now and she has her owna ride and ting, so…

Today’s visit was for a much more sad occasion though… click the link below to continue…

I went to a memorial service for the wife of a guy I was working with briefly at the last work place… They had been going out since 1999, apparently they were really deeply in love and ting, they got married just last year, his wife got pregnant and then she and the baby died during the delivery… just awful… Some people really get some rough licks in life, bwoy!

Anyway, the church I went to is the Elmslie Memorial Church. It was built by a shipwright named Captain Rayal Bodden, and it seems like it was built awhile aback, I need to check the actual date…. They say that the ceiling inside was constructed to resemble a schooner’s hull. It is a really picturesque little church, and it is right on the Harbour in George Town. There are a lot of plaques on the wall which were put up in remembrance of people who I guess were important in the church and probably in the social life of Grand Cayman. I read one or two and they dated back to 1906 and years like that. I saw one about a man who was lost at sea. All quite interesting. I liked the vibe in the church and as I saids, it was quite pretty… I may go back and take a couple of pictures and post them on the blog still, we’ll see…

I didn’t linger after the service though, as I had was to go back to work to complete an install of Oracle on a server meant to be our disaster recovery box… well, when I went back, disaster struck my install… Apparently the server didn’t have a couple of critical C libraries installed on it (yeah, I know, I should have checked that)and the whole linking process failed as a result. Oh well, I am still here at work waiting to see if someone will call and tell me where the Operating System CD is so that I can attempt to install the necessary libraries, but as soon as I finish this post I am flashing. Tomorrow will be another day, you simi?

Oh yeah, tomorrow is MBJr’s sports day too… I will be going to that in the AM. Maybe I will take a couple of pictures of that too. Anyways, I gone! Talk to you on the morrow…
