Don’t Do the Trike Thing

Well, Natty and I have been busy at work the whole week and MBJr. has been at home the whole time so we decided to take him to Rum Point yesterday. First, let me say that while this may not have been the hottest day of the year, it was still hot nuh rass! Natty elected not to swim, she sat on a beach chair in the shade of a bunch of Casuarina trees the whole time, but she still felt mega-sapped by the heat! At the same time, it was an irie day, probably the best time I’ve had at Rum Point since the other two times I was there, the day was quite overcast! Twas a very nice day indeed.

MBJr. enjoyed himself immensely. Of course, he didn’t want to leave when it was time. The water is so shallow up at Rum Point, and it stays shallow going out so far that I even let him play in it without following him in for long periods. Natty and I just kept our eyes on him, because he is still unable to swim. I hope to get him enrolled in swimming classes over the coming week, if I can find any going on… Here is a picture of him playing around in the shallows, in the shade of the said casuarina trees… Anyway, eventually MBJr. decided that he wanted to go out on on of those water-trike things, you know those tricycles with wheels which have tiny paddles alog their sides…. the wheels are really big flotation devices and the trike seats two adults. They allow those adults to pedal the trike around in the water. The problem with them is that they don’t work very well.

The paddles on the side of the tires are tiny! As such, they don’t propel the craft through the water very well! Now I have not been getting much exercise at all, so when I took MBJr. out on the trike, I nearly died! What a lot of pedalling! I rented the trike for an hour and I don’t think I took more than 20 minutes with the damned thing! By the time we got back to the beach, I could barely push the trike out of the water! I then went back to my beach lounge chair and flopped down on it and didn’t move for about 10 - 15 minutes! Natty was worried that maybe I was going to have a heart attack! I was nowhere near that, but I was so tired!

People, if you haven’t done much exercise recently, stay far from those trikes! Take my stupid advice. A word to the wise is sufficient. Awoah!smily

Actually, I would go out on a trike again, but I wouldn’t stay out so long, and I’d prefer to go with an adult who can help to pedal the damned thing, rasta! It is good exercise though and the Lord knows I need some of that. Next time I will take out a kayak! I love those! I wanna take out one of their wave runners too. I’ll keep you posted on how that goes.
