Saddam ah Yard and Abroad
So, how many of you have been following the Saddam Hussein trial? Its interesting, but also, I think its a waste of time. We pretty much all accept the man is a fiend! Rass, if he was Mr. Goodfellow, then the U.S. really wasted a shitload of money and U.S. lives (not to mention Iraqi ones, huh?) going in and grabbing him, nuh true? I mean, we know they lied about the WMD, but Saddam was really a fiend!
Then I remember back some time in the past, a couple of weeks ago or so, I heard that a couple of the clerks in the court were offended by Saddam insulting a temple belonging to their religion or something like that and they became enraged and rush the man and beat him up! I remember how I marvelled when I heard it, and how the first thing I thought when I heard it was, “How far have the mighty fallen, eeeh?”. Actually, thats what I was thinking when I heard about the hole in the ground the U.S. military plucked him out of.
IMHO, we should be back in olden times to deal with a man like this! He only deserves one day on trial. At the end of that time, they should just drag him outside and behead him in front of the bloodthirsty mob. Instead, we hear stuff like lawyers on the trial being murdered and stuff like that… I say not even one more life should be wasted on the likes of him! Come on, just drag him out of the court room tomorrow and dus’ him out! Cho man!
Then you know that they are trying another “Saddam” in Jamaica, at the same time! Yes man! You never knew that Renato Adam’s nickname was “Saddam”?
Of course, there is more…
Renato Adams and five or six more of his shottas are on trial for murder, for some killings they perpetrated in Kraal in Jamaica. (Ppl, type ‘Kraal’ in the search textbox over there in the lefthand side column for more links to the story of what transpired in Kraal) Yes, rasta, Reneto escaped scot-free from the Braeton killings, but will he be able to crawl out of this Kraal trial?
I noticed that the Jamaican Gov’t was asked to assist in paying for the legal costs of the defence of the policemen on trial and they have agreed to pay J$19 million towards that cause! Interesting, isn’t it? I couldn’t find a link to that story today, but I read something written by Yvonne McCalla Sobers (who is big in Human Rights activism in Yard) on the issue that was reprinted in the Portmore Website Newsletter :
FASTforward no. 38Legal aid for Adams and co-defendants
The Jamaican government has found JA$19 million to help pay the legal fees of six policemen now on trial for the murders of four people in Crawle Clarendon. The government’s action raises a number of questions:
1. Whether policemen receive legal aid under terms not available to civilians. Mr Gilbert Scott, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of National Security implied that principles of representation carried across the board. He said, “The government also provides legal aid to other persons. It is the principle of ensuring representation.”
2. Whether the legal aid system is as underfunded as Arlene Henry Harrison, president of the Bar Association, has described it. She described the legal aid programme as “a wholly under-funded facility offered to prisoners and accused persons who are not able to afford legal representation.”
3. How it is that the government could spend on legal aid for six policemen the sum it would normally spend on legal aid for about 140 civilians.
4. Why the government is paying at market rate for the services of the defence team in the Crawle case, when legal aid attorneys normally have to accept token payments to represent poor civilians in the courts.
5. How it is that the government found $19 million to defend policemen on a murder charge when the government could find only $2.8 million to compensate Jenny Cameron when soldiers and policemen beat her son Michael Gayle to
death.6. Whether the political affiliation of several members of the defence team influenced on the government’s capacity to pay out one-third of the legal aid budget on just one case.
Attorneys who are genetically connected to the ruling party include:· K. Churchill Neita who was the 1993 PNP candidate for North East Manchester. He ran against Audley Shaw.
· Errol Gentles who was the 1997 PNP candidate for North East Manchester, also running against Audley Shaw. In addition, until 2003 he was parish councilor in the Walderston Division, Manchester.
· Valerie Neita Robertson’s husband, Larry Robertson, was PNP councillor of Drakers Hall Portland 1977-1981. He ran unsuccessfully in the 2003 parish council elections as the PNP candidate in the Fairy Hill division, Portland.
· Gladstone Wilson whose wife, Maxine Henry-Wilson, is the current Minister of Education, Youth, and Culture.
· Oswest Senior Smith who represents the PNP in a legal capacity and is reportedly caretaker of the North Eastern St Ann constituency now represented by Shahine Robinson.
7. Whether the government plans to finance the appeal if the policemen are found guilty.
At a time when the legal aid system lacks funds to pay attorneys to represent the poor, and to compensate the public for injury or death at the hands of the police, the public deserves to know why the government has paid out $19 million to the Crawle defence team.

For completeness, I will include the comments of Portmore dot Org’s webmaster…
Thank you Yvonne for your newsletter.
I admire your detailed and hard work.
I published your newsletter for two reasons:1) Supt. Adams was the leader of the police officers who where involved in the “Braeton Seven” shooting incident. If he and the others are convicted as criminals, then it would throw a shadow on all the other actions with the similar circumstances.
2) The government should provide us with a CLEAR explanation as to why it is doing this.
If what you are saying is the correct sentiment, then we have on our hands a government of truly questionable integrity! However I believe there are at least 2 sides to a story and I would love a government point of view.
I have said this to you before, but I will repeat it now …. The Police MUST be treated very specially because of the unique nature of their jobs. They face the dangers most people run away from and so they must be given EVERY chance to defend their innocence. The government has a moral duty to ensure that they are well defended. Particularly in this case.
What would be sad is if the defense team is packed with allegedly partisan lawyers instead of competent ones!
Say it is not so and your perspective is wrong! Let Justice be honestly prevailed upon and let it stand.
Kennedy Reid
Yes, Kennedy is my bredrin from Yard, and he is always the voice of reason. At the same time, it looks to me like Adams and his crew are carrying secrets for people in high places and as such, the Government is forced to do their best for him, ($19 Million worth) . I hope that Justice is served on this case, but maybe this one will go the way of the Braeton 7 case too, who knows?
Anyway, this is unaccustomed territory foir the Bull! Lets cut to something lighter immediately!
Last week, somebody brought Tami Chynn to Cayman to perform at a little session set up to hype the launch of a website for La Familia Entertainment. Partysurfers has up pictures of the event, as usual. I read in the review at PartySurfers that several hundred people turned out to see Tami! Big up to her, cuz it was a very reainy night, as I recall. Anyway, check out the picture I posted from the set at Party Surfers… Three nice looking dawtas… Tami Chynn is the one in the middle. She looks scrumptious!
Hey, check out the girl pon the right. Look at her blouse and skirt. Nuh STGC Blue and White that? I think it looks good on her still! She looks to be in the pink of health too…
I think she has something to do with the promotions of the event, actually… She is probably with La Familia Entertainment. How much you bet that at least one of her parents is from Yard? I am going to check it out and let oonoo know!
Here is another knockout from Yard. I am going to post two pictures of the young miss that I came across on Hi 5. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Miss Carolyn Yapp of Montego Bay, Jamaica:
Whoi! What a dawta look sweet, eeeh? Pity she seems to be so full of herself, based on her pronouncements following her loss to Tonoya Toyloy in the Miss Jamaica World 2004.

Don’t half of the people in Cayman actually come from JA or England? I need to visit there sometime.
Dat de Yapp girl well sweeeet!! I think she had actually entered the Miss Ja thing about two years ago.
Haven’t really been following the trials at all. Both seem a bit of a farse really. man guilty…bring on the punishment…..
The photos are nice.
Yep Sandam has certainly fallen off his high horse.
One of the many words to sum up Jamaican government: Currupt!
Dem girls look noice, especially Miss Yapp, Tami a mi girl still!
Immigrant??? JC…a wah dat!?
I’ll play devil’s advocate. Yes Saddam is a bad man, no denying that, even if one controls for the propaganda generated by Mr. Bush to rationalize his vendetta. That aside there are a lot of equally bad men out there who are not facing any such retribution.
And trail aside, nothing substantial has really been done but shifting the power structure from the Sunni’s to the Shiites. The same power structure of abuse will remain and resurface when the Americans leave. I much more interested in a stable Iraq than Saddam getting his (as if Saddam wasn’t there it just would have been someone else).
ps: Miss Carolyn Yapp look well nice…
