Dog Sled Racing?!
Hey, oonoo remember the Jamaican Bobsleigh Team? Crazy stuff, nuh true? Hmph… Well, if thats what you thought about those guys, what would you think of a Jamaican dog sled racer,i.e. a Jamaican ‘driver’ on a sled pulled by Siberian Huskies? Sounds improbable, no? Well, maybe the Bobsleigh team won’t be the ‘hottest thing on ice’ much longer, because Devon Anderson of Jamaica takes part in his first Dog-sled event this weekend in Europe, and he has high hopes of competing in other races and eventually of taking part in the Winter Olympics of 2010!
A couple of interesting points… he is funded by Chris Blackwell (who used to be Bob Marley’s record producer) and Jimmy Buffet (the country singer who is involved in Margaritaville)…
He has never seen snow before…
He has been training in Kingston using a three wheeled sled pulled by a team of four mongrels rescued from the dog pound!
So what you think? Him mad, sick, head nuh good? I dunno… but I wish him good luck this weekend still, and I hope he makes it to the Olympics in 2010! Big up, Devon! ![]()
Hey props for the brother….if he feel he can do it! Then more power to him.
Everything that started in life started as a thought….he put his thought into action and is making it happen apparently!!
You go boy!
I hope everything works out for him and he makes it to the Olympics!
~Smooches~
It seems there is nothing that Jamaican’s can’t do! So why are there guys funding this seemingly impssible feat? Could there be n reality TV show in the making? Any I wish him all the best!
Nice post. I just thought I would mention that to categorise Jimmy Buffet in the Country genre would be to narrow the scope of his music, in that his whose music crosses a lot of genres including Rock, Blues and Country.. but it really does not sound like anyone else, he has his own style. You may also recall that the Jamaican authorities once shot his plane down thinking it was a drug plane. Jimmy was probably having a spliff at the wheel still.
I read something about him before. Well yuh gotta be de first fuh something. He mekking a name fuh heself…Good Luck to the brotha
All the best to him.
We Jamaicans can do anything we set our minds to.
I would’nt be surprised if he made the olympics and put on a decent performance i.e.by beating a few seasoned campaigners.
They’ve certainly put up a slick Web site. Dog Bruno looks like he’s had a real dog’s life.
Note that the biggest button on the site is for merchandising. Even though it’s still under development, I’m sure Mr Buffet’s team have a ship load of T-shirts to sell us.
And as much as Mr Buffet says he can’t wait to hear “mush mon”, I’m sure he’ll be even happier to hear the sound of *kaching!*
well wait till he see snow. when the cold hit him boy he might say i dun wid this foolishess got to be a warmer way to make a name for myself
Jdid you funny yes…. Good luck to him yes can’t keep a Jamaican down.
Jamaica has a spirit that I just love. No wonder I lived there for 14 years.
I met one of the Bobsled guys, a quiet and nice fella.
Way to go mongrels.Interesting little story there-wish him all the best
Wow really. Best of luck to him then. Mongrels? Proof that Jamaicans can adapt for any situation.
Seems that Devon placed 27th from a field of 40 competitors! Not bad at all! See here…
