This Aint the V-Spot
Alright, alright, alright… Happy Valentine’s Day. (f) (l)
Unfortunately, I have a cold and am not feeling Valentines-ey at all! You have fun for me.
Guess what? I believe I had mentioned that I was helping a sistren get Oracle loaded uo on a Fedora Core Linux box? Well, we reach a certain way and been bucking our head pon a stone. Today though, I came across the free download of Oracle Enterprise Linux! We have to wheel and come again with this new distro… Since its from Oracle, it should work, shouldn’t it? We shall see. More on this anon.
Anyway, me done take my nighttime cold capsules so me gone to lie down. Wish me a speedy recovery. TTYL.
Cho, you soon bounce back to full speed…..miself a try lick weh a flu…..
Fedora Core whateva…..almost sound like de name of a medication to me rude bwoy……
linux.. i miss it so much already.. i think i’m going back. windows isn’t for me.
I have no experience with Oracle Linux. Frankly, this is the first I am hearing of it beyond mystical hand waving and innuendo of its future existence. I’ll have to check it out.
What I can tell you is that Oracle on Linux is certified for Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) which Fedora is similar to but, Fedora is not the same. Because of the differences between Fedora and RHEL, Fedora must be “massaged” in order to run Oracle. Here is how to install Oracle on Fedora Core 6. But, the next option will almost certainly be less problematic in the long run.
But, you’ve still got a viable option. CentOS is identical to RHEL. CentOS is the Red Hat sources, stripped of trademarks and compiled by the CentOS group. With CentOS you get a free version of RHEL.
Here is how to install Oracle on CentOS.
The how-tos make the installation a cinch. Using Oracle and being an Oracle DBA is another story alltogether but, I assume that you have that part handled and only need help with the Linux angle.

ok - sorry - bad joke.
Yes - the linux distro of Oracle should be fine. You won’t get the other versions to work on linux properly; best case I ever saw is it was installed and running, but any attempt to interact with it gave 600 errors (which pretty much means corrupted data files).
Let me know how it goes - you KNOW how interested *I* am.
Ah… fingers, too fast for my own good - hope you’re already feeling better MB.
YUSH
Hmm, have nothing to contribute here since the ongle fedora mi know ’bout a di one yuh wear pon yuh head.
Speedy recovery to you, mate!
Feel better, bro!
Feel better soon. Take care, yuh nuh want some cersee bush fi dat cold/flu?
First Doc get sick now you? You guys need to be more germs vigilant during this time of year with the cooler weather. Am I the only person that takes Echinacea? Because of it I have not caught a cold in three years. Rest up my yute and let it run its course.
So how did that install go??? Any Luck?
@Yatta… I haven’t got to it yet. I was on vacation, go back to work tomorrow (ugh!).
I need to find a PC to try it on though. Not overwriting my home pc for that, no way… If the sistren wants to try it on her PC, well then, all systems are go.
