Yeah boy! Collie Budz album is now out. How did I know? Last night, I went to MySpace to try find a music video for Natty and I clicked their “Music” link. Braps! I was face to face with the Collie! MySpace has him as the featured artiste! Thats pretty interesting, I think. That looks like it would give an artiste some pretty good exposure right there! Is plenty, plenty people on MySpace, ee’know! How many of them probably clicked on the “Music” link last night? I can’t say, but I’d wager it was a fair amount of people who did so! Now they have at least heard of Collie. Looking at the picture, he is a good looking young man, which will make a lot of people click on the link to take a listen to at least a couple of his songs! It is interesting… I wonder how someone gets MySpace to have you as the “Featured Artiste”. Sounds to me like Collie has some strong “Backitive”! Some of the yute’s songs sound good, oonoo gwan and take a toke offa the Collie Budz.
Hey, reggae / dancehall music is everywhere nowadays, you know? It is all over South America (reggaeton), while in the US, they have it on the radio and on the soundtrack of films, and it is even being featured in videogames! It is everywhere…. at the same time though, there are those who are saying that the music is degenerating. Check out Seven’s thoughts on that very topic over by the Tower of Babel. Read what she has to say and tell her what you think on the issue.
In other news, I have started at the gym as I said I was going to do. I went three times so far this week. Unfortunately, I have not yet stopped going to the bar.
Actually, what I will be doing re the bar is making less frequent visits. Don’t really want to stop visiting the bars all together. Yeah, you haffi fit and healthy, but you have to enjoy life too, rasta! Cho.
Anyway, the gym has tired me out this week! And I haven’t lifted much iron yet either. I have only squatted with some weights one night, and every night I used this machine where you use weights to do crunches… that machine is sweet, rasta! I love it! (y)
Still, most of my time so far at the gym has been spent on the ellyptical trainer, in fat burning mode. I hope that works quickly! If I could drop 10-20 pounds soon and keep it off, I would be ecstatic. Even better would be to stay the same weight but to transform the fat into muscle. Lets see how it goes. Wish me luck. TTYL.
Okay, money is a great motivator. Think of all the $$ you’d save if you didn’t go to the bar.
I walk a lot too, great fresh air, free gym, the outdoors are
Collie Buddz is a good one to tie to my comments on Seven’s post. Look at his “name”, look at the thug look and the gang signs, with the dark and decrepit background, listen to the lyrics. What is the purpose of this image that he is working so hard to emulate and cultivate? What is the message to society and what about society would cause a marketing department to work so hard at making someone look bad?
Collie Buddz, like so many others, will likely make a lot of money by at least portraying himself as highly antisocial.
You know, I didn’t know that what Collie Buddz was doing with his hand was a gang sign. I thought he was making a gun with his fingers and pointing it at us all. Look at the thumb! I thought he had his “gun” pon cock and was about to pop us all… So its a gang sign? Do you know which one? Most interesting…
The gang sign was an assumption on my part since that is typical for these types of poses and these types of performers. I couldn’t possibly tell you who or what any of them mean. But, if your interpretation is correct, that his “gun†pon cock and was about to pop us all, then it’s all the worse. No?
My point remains that these “artists”and their marketers go out of their way to portray an antisocial or counter culture image because that is what the fans seem to be drawn to. In turn, the fans emulate the antisocial behavior of their favorite performers and they all cause the antisocial behavior to be amplified in the feedback loop that I mentioned in the comment to Seven.
This is not a new phenomenon. Many people said the exact same things about the Charleston and flappers in the 1920s and later Elvis Presley and rock ‘n roll. Who knows, they may even have said it in Rome during Caesar’s rule. But, the level of violence and depravity that is advocated and glorified seems to be higher than ever in the past hundred years, at least to me. Perhaps the glorification of violence and depravity was as bad or worse in Caesar’s Rome but, look what happened there.
What has Wordpress done to the carriage returns?
I can’t separate my paragraphs in the comments anymore.
I have been noticing that too… I wonder if its a plugin I have loaded or if its the result of having upgraded? Hmmm. I will check it out. I agree with what you have said, by the way. I guess we’re all getting old.

is it me or he resemble Sean Paul?
I think he does resemble Sean Paul. Perhaps thats why he is getting strong marketing backing.
Ok, re the problem with my comments, here is what I have learned:I used to use a Wordpress Plugin named More Smilies V. 2.1. The author no longer supports it and it doesn’t work in Wordpress V.2.2.1. Once I turn that plugin off, carriage returns start working again.
It seemed that html tags like paragraph tags and line break tags stopped working also. Other html tags, like the tag for bold and the anchor tag (as you might have already discerned) continue to work. Further testing is necessary. Sorry… still, its not really my fault.
