Oh Baby, I’m Makin’ Love!

I was just chatting with my Mamacita on the phone. She was telling me that Kingston is very hot in the Christmas season which is coming upon us rapidly! Apparently the murder rate in Yard has gone through the roof! People are killing people left and right! It sounds to me like most people are going to want to wake up on Christmas Morning and see that Santa has left a Steyr in the Christmas Stocking for them, so that they can protect home and hearth!

The Steyr AUG Assault Rifle

I bet you are all wondering what the rass I know about this gun? Well, truth be told, not much. It is the gun that was used by Mack Bolan in this Executioner novel I just finished. I used to read the Executioner series a lot, back when I was in high school. One day I was walking through the supermarket here and saw one and decided to give it a read for nostalgic purposes. It turned out to still be an interesting read. It wasn’t a Robert Ludlum by any means (Though it was similar, now that I think about it. I guess the difference is more one of complexity of plot rather than anything else.), but it does a pretty good job good for when one is “communing with nature” in the mornings before work. Interestingly enough, Mack Bolan no longer focuses primarily on fighting the mafia. Now he does terrorists as well! Times do change, don’t they?

Anyway, I hope the JLP make some moves soon to curb the murder rate, and crime in general!

So what did you all make of the business where Bruce Golding gave out that Omar Davies was planning the 2007/2008 budget at JD71:USD1? I don’t know, he was making out that there was something sinister about it, but it simply seems like a good, prudent approach to me. I mean, when any business man is making budgets in Jamaica, if his plans don’t take F/X Rate change risk into account, his business won’t last long, and it seems to me that a prudent Gov’t. minister would have to do the same.

Omar’s comments on the inadvisability of Bruce’s declaring the rate that the budget was planned using seem spot on to me as well. If you as the Gov’t. say that you were planning with an exchange rate of 71:1 in mind, that is surely going to influence the rate to climb till it reached there! I am sure that Bruce Golding would know this! I wonder if he is just playing some cheap polytricks. :???:

  1. At the rate of depreciation of the JA $ in recent times, don’t you think 71/1 is probably optomistic?
Perhaps revealing this figure is intended to provide a psychological support level, rather than the opposite.

  2. pure death and destruction a yard iyah, that mixed with politics is never a good thing

  3. The gun wish was funny but probably so true. Santa may be scared to make visits tho

  4. Both of them are playing politics. The exchange rate for the US dollar used in the national budget is no secret. At budget preparation time - about December - every Ministry, Statutory Body and Public entity is advised of the rate to be used in the following April’s budget. I used to make up the budget for my department in a government-owned company and I was advised of the official rate to be used. It has never been a secret. Both of them know this!

  5. Dear God man. The dollar’s falling to nutten! I was doing a project on economics yesterday and I realized that the dollar was at $48 in 2003, while other Caribbean countries have theirs ranging from $1 to $2.70. What are we doing wrong? Cool gun. I would want one for Christmas!
