Some Stuff…

Ok now. I am just going to give you some “piece-ah piece-ah tings” for a post now. (some bits and pieces of things for a post)

First up… I am quite proud of this photo which I took either yesterday or the day before, I posted it up in Owen’s “Shadow Project”, do go and check it out, give me your comments.

Next, I have a question about the last post I wrote. When I wrote it, it felt right to me to write it in patois. Sometimes the vibe just takes me to express myself that way, and it can be so strong that if I felt I had to write the post in English, I probably would not bother to write it. At the same time, I do recognise that I am limiting the possible readership, because it is not everyone who can understand the language. I did realise that limitation when I wrote the post, but I felt like it was a good post anyway, and I felt that the Yardie posse would appreciate it, and I would get at least a comment or two from that massive.

When I noted the paucity of comments upon that post however, I had to pause and take stock… is it just that people (including my Yardie bredrins and sistrens) can’t bother to read things in patois, or is it just that the post is really crap. Let me know, guys. If I need to stop writing things in patois, let me know so that I don’t waste the time in future. If it was just that it was a crappy post, well, I will still write stuff in patois from time to time, but I will have to try harder to come up with better stuff. Either way, I want to know what you think.

Next, have all you Blogger peoples noted that Wordpress dot com is giving you three Gigabytes of storage for free! Why are you still with Blogger! Tell them to fluck off! What did I say? 3GB, people! I am seriously considering moving my main blog over to Wordpress dot com myself! Its a lot of work, but I have been feeling like my hosting provider is screwing me up the ass and you know that Yard man don’t stand for any batty business whatever! As Doctor Evil said, we don’t even like the word ‘bottom’, much less! Don’t be surprised if I make that move pretty soon.

Next, I called my mother today and she run me! All because of Barack Obama! Hear her: “Mad, I can’t talk to you right now, you will have to call me back. Great things are going on in America!”. So I asked her what was so irie over there. “The Kennedy’s have given Obama their endorsement! Big things! I am watching it on CNN, you should too. Call me back later.” With that, she hung up. Well, I felt a bit miffed, but only a little bit. After all, it is a big thing, isn’t it? Congrats to Obama. I hope it swings things even more in his favour. It would be great to see him be the choice of the democrats to run for president for their party. I just hope that he doesn’t get shot after that! Lord, please watch over your son, and our African bredrin, Obama. (Yeah, I know that Obama is from the United States, and I know that the bredrin at Afflicted Yard has suggested that Obama bleaches, but as the song says, “No matter where you come from, if you are black, you are an African”.) Of course, Eternal Father, let your will be done and not ours, but I’m just saying….

People, speaking of things relating to black issues, have your read the National Geographic of February 2008? There is a story in there about the Nubian Pharaohs who ruled over ancient Egypt for a time, reunifying the country and keeping it great for quite awhile! Very interesting story. The writer even suggests that these Nubian Pharaohs had a hand in shaping our present times, ie. Israel and the whole Middle East issue. Did you know that they have more pyramids in Sudan than they do in all of Egypt! And that they may all be lost from us forever if the Sudanese Gov’t. goes ahead with plans to build a Dam which will result in the whole area where these pyramids are being flooded! Of course, we shouldn’t be overly pessimistic! Maybe this will become a great dive destination. Hmmm… Anyway, this is good stuff. Check it out!

Finally, if you decide to build a house instead of buying one that has been built already, be prepared for a lot of headaches. You have to monitor the contractors closely, and I mean closely. I am predicting here that I am about to have a little head ache myself, hopefully it can be negotiated in a way that is satisfactory to all. People, watch the contractors closely! The earlier you find problems and get them addressed, the better it is! A word to the wise is sufficient.

Apart from all that, its been a great long weekend over here in the Cayman Islands. Saturday was quiet for us, but yesterday we went to an irie pool party (the people there brought their kids too, so MBJr. had a whale of a time! I had some sweet steamed fish there too, you see!!) and today, we had a couple of MBJr’s school bredrin’s over (so he had a whale of a time today as well.). Natty and I enjoyed ourselves too, but I won’t go into any details. What happened over the weekend stays over the weekend, er… will not be discussed. We’d have to kill you afterwards.

Anyway, TTYL, zeen? Peace.

  1. man mi no know people wi chat it but mi no know if dem really write dun wha dem sey or even read it anywhere. not a sign sign inna jamaica written inna it. It almost like the lol thing that you do in msn chat - the medium might not transfer well. I assume a all patois talk show would work betta.

I’ve learnt not to watch comment totals.

  2. Bwoy, mi nuh have nuh problem wid yu patois star.Mi respect de fact dat de I bilingual. No problem star ! ! Respect and one luv.Tanks fi di National Geographic piece .

  3. @ Esteban : Yeah, but when confronted with a post in patois, do you read it, or do you say to yourself, ” Cho, reading this is too much of an effort!”, and then you just click on one of my links and go somewhere else? :?:

  4. never check the last post yet my yout but i say go with the patois. no limit ya thinking and writing.

some posts just automatically lend themselves to writing in patois to be honest.

    oh and nice photo

obama bleachng? ya neva kno star.

  5. Dude, I love Obama. And not in the Brokeback sense. The man is well-spoken, well-dressed, articulate, intelligent and has the interests of the common man at heart. As for that “Fuh Card” post, I’ll read it later. It’s strange. The Egyptians were black, but in movies, they’re always portrayed as white. Why dem cyaa give black people dem dues?

  6. Mad Bull, on the contrary, I totally enjoy our lingua Jamaica,i.e., patois. I do not have a problem reading any post in patois. As a matter of fact, I enjoy , listening to and reading patois. Patois is so forceful ,cogent ,compelling ,weighty ,persuasive, potent, dynamic ,efficient, and impressive, that I will never abandon it . Like you, I can transition relatively easy from fluent patois to fluent English .So , please continue posting in patois.Nonetheless, a caveat ,please be mindful of the fact that you are posting for the entire world.Consequently, comprehension of patois will be extremely limited, but if and when you do post in patois,I can assure you that this is one brethren that will continue to read your very interesting posts.RESPECT star ! !

  7. I read that last post before.. I thought I commented, I guess I got distracted.

anyway whats so bad about blogger? I am a casual blogger so it fills my needs :D

  8. Hey I think it made of an interesting read…..And anyone with half a brain can figure it out, so why limit yourself…you should express yourself in a way that’s natrual to you…

  9. Obama seem to be gaining some grounds. This is an interesting election year for the US. Nuff people watching the politics!

  10. mb, write what you want how you want. its your blog. and if a richie cunningham looking white boy from virginia like me can understand your patois posts, i don’t think its as difficult as you seem to think.

  11. Thanks, Jeff.

  12. Nutten no wrong wi di patois bredrin. Forward!

  13. MB, I am all for the patois, and I used to think it kind of weird that you previously provided “subtitles” for your breaks into full patois. That said, patois is still, essentially, a spoken language, and there is still no standardisation of spelling (to my knowledge). In practical terms, this limits my ability (even as a born Jamaican) to “speed read” your patois posts. With at least three news services to check out each morning, plus “Mad Bull”, I may not always have the time. Just something you might want to consider. Nuff respect.

  14. Write anyhow you want. As you said sometimes some things best expressed in the patois.

  15. No probs with the post in patios. I’ll say that I’m one who reads and infrequently comments. Keep it up- makes for an interesting read- I like the idea of a “fuh card”

  16. Lawd man, de people dem was tired that evening so couldn’t be bothered to comment.

  17. u was writing in patois? oh zeen! lol
a wah me do den??? LOL

anyhoo it funny caw mi did tink obama was a bleach too!!! lol!!!

  18. I enjoy reading the patois…I understand it sometimes, and at times I need the translation that you do.
I don’t blog much for myself, but when I get a break I read yours.

  19. Jus’ hadmit seh yuh cyaan tawk prappa nuh?

  20. As others have siad it is your blog and write how you want to. It’s all good. Believe.

Happybutterfly’s last blog post..Worthing timber burn out
