Mmm Mmmm! Look Weh Mi Come To! Last night I went to the gym and was using a machine when this guy came up to me and said, “You soon done, Dads?”. Dads! Me being called Dads by a big horse-steering, tough-back man.

MB not to fret. When I got my first job at 18 I recall asking my manager, who at the time was 28, how come she was so old and not even married. I even told them that any how I reach fi dem age and not married I would have to jump off a cliff…time passed and I got to their age….and alas, nothing happened for me…..and now 10 years have passed again and I am staring at 40 (still not married and no kids). I have 2 little cousins who just turned 20 and 22 and they refer to me as “old school”. So I guess you could say that I have now been placed in the hall of doom and gloom by my juniors:). Yes, when i stop at the stop light people refer to me as “mommy”….so not to worry….you’re not alone.

Mad Bull and Jamaican Girl, such comments are directed and hurled at me on a daily basis.Interestingly, the first time I was referred to, or ,described in a manner depicting my age, I was somewhat taken a back and extremely surprised, because, I had not thought of, or, seen myself in terms of being old, and was of the perspective that I was a spring chicken, irrespective of how others, especially, younger people perceived me.Consequently,it was a little bit uncomfortable, psychologically. Nonetheless,as time progressed,I came to the realization and understanding that such perceptions on the part of younger people may be correct, especially today, since we are now living in a youth obsessed culture, where anyone over thirty can be considered a geriatric. For what it is worth, let me assure both of you(Mad Bull and Jamaican Girl) that you are not old, or ,for that matter, even “old school”.As a matter of fact,I would classify both of you ,as a contemporary man and a contemporary woman ,despite chronological advancement. RESPECT!!
Uhm…all of you guys are old, just admit it geez, unnnuh ole’ foot unnuh, estaban, bull and jamaican girl(rofl at girl) myabe you guys should start a ‘don’t call me old club”, hehehe i’m just messsing with you guys, once your good with computers no matter your age i don’t consider you old.
Cheers

Whaapen Dads!!
Fret not my yute, it happens to me as well. I am also frequently referred to as “Blessed!” In many cases, I actually think it is done to imply a certain degree of respect for the individual.
Thing with some of today’s youngsters (and at 44 I certainly don’t consider myself old, or feel old, perhaps a bit wiser and experienced) is that they seem to go through many of life’s experiences so early that by the time they hit 25-30 they think they have done and tried it all. Did I ever mention the 14 year old yute I had seen as a patient who came to the clinic at the hospital in his khaki (? spelling) uniform referred with genital warts. When I asked him if he was sexually active (of course I know he is) his reply was, ‘not anymore than anybody else!’ I ended the discussion there Dads!
Anyway, on a different note, any further progress with the new home?
@ Dr. D: Check me on the house at the end of the month, I’ll probably have something to tell you then, Gramps! ‘Bout you “Dads”. Feisty!
Hush, nuh mind. My status also officially changed to Mums and Mummy in December. I don’t know exactly how that happened, but all of a sudden, I wasn’t getting psssts anymore from the young bwoy dem. Instead, I’m getting deference and manners and all kind of decent treatment, even when I cuss dem off for some bad behaviour. So, just grow into the Dads status, and claim it because you have earned it.

Any man or woman who refers to me in such a way…is a dead man or woman…
My mother say, being *old* give her TONS of privileges, she can tell people exactly wat she tink and they have to LISTEN. [But come to think of it, young-age never stop she from speaking her mind!]
